As the Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and drafting agreements and other contracts. You will assist senior lawyers with advising on a wide range of legal issues to business units and the legal rights and obligations of the company.

What You'll Be Doing:
Review, prepare, and negotiate contracts and other commercial and transactional documents including dealer and customer contracts; supplier contracts; procurement, advertising, marketing, and product liability; technology licensing; litigation; commercial leasing; and corporate law and governance
Respond to routine inquiries with respect to interpretation of legislation and regulations affecting the company
Provide litigation support, including gathering evidence, investigating facts and legal issues, and preparing and responding to discovery requests
Participate in legal compliance programs and assist with internal administrative procedures
Draft various documents including legal opinions, agreements and reports
Conduct research on corporate issues
Assist senior counsel with major corporate and financing transactions

What We're Looking For:
LLB or JD from a recognized Canadian University or Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee of Accreditation
Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada
1-3 years of related work experience in a law firm or corporation
Excellent analytical skills to review and analyze contracts, apply legal principles, and assess risks to Canon’s business
Strong project and process management skills to follow-up with business units and customers during contract process, assist with large legal projects, and escalate issues
Ability to balance conflicting priorities for all business units and meet all deadlines
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
French is considered an asset
