We have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and results focused individual to join our Finance team in the role of Junior Accountant - Arbutus College.

In this role, you will ensure accurate student records are maintained and complete the AP, AR, and payroll duties for EduCo Global’s growing businesses in North America. Based in Arbutus College in Vancouver, this position will provide day to day transactional support for our North American colleges as well as assist the North America Finance Manager with month end and year end closing and reporting.

Responsibilities and Duties

Some of your key responsibilities include:

Student Inquiry and Student Database (30% of time)

  • Providing students with services within reasonable timeframe for students inquiries
  • Adjusting student records in our student database to ensure data is up to date in accordance with student contract and student advising form

AP duties (30% of time)

  • Processing invoices and preparing accounts payable for approval
  • Processing student refund requests according to our policy and reconciling the student’s financial record
  • Processing education agent commission requests according to our policy and reconciling the education agent’s financial record in our student data worksheets and our accounting program.
  • Weekly Agents commission reports and KPI reports

AR duties (20% of time)

  • Ensuring timely invoicing per student contract
  • Entering student payment plans
  • Running collections reports in coordination with the Admission & Student Fees Officer and school staff to ensure all students have paid prior to studying and according to Payment Plan due dates
  • Recording receipts in our student database and accounting system

Bank Reconciliations (10% of time)

  • Completing weekly bank reconciliations
  • Preparing daily cash flow reports

Assist with month end and year end closing and reporting (10% of time)

  • Ensuring timely responses to month end and year end queries
  • Reporting accrual report for invoices not received neither posted

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal. You are highly organized with strong planning skills, have very high attention to detail and excellent time management skills. You have the ability to take initiative and be proactive, able to maintain confidentiality and willing to develop knowledge and skills over time.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 2 years of accounting experience including AP and AR
  • Minimum 2 years of experience using an accounting program, preferably Sage ERP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs with intermediate skills in Excel
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team with shared responsibilities as well as autonomously and without direct supervision
  • An analytical and investigative mind-set
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all dealings with internal and external parties.
