Stephenson’s Building Science teams focus on building assessment and sustainable design for
the rehabilitation of buildings and concrete structures. Our experience includes the
restoration of parking garages, repair of building elements, façades, roofing, waterproofing,
glazing, site pavement, and the project management of rehabilitation works.

Job Description

The Project Associate, Building Sciences is responsible for conducting preliminary
investigations, preparing reports, condition assessments and creating design documents
relating to restoration projects, as well as providing quality assurance for work undertaken by
contractors. Additional duties include managing small to medium sized restoration projects.

Job Duties

  • Providing engineering expertise for the repair and rehabilitation of structures such as
parking garages, balconies, masonry restoration, roofing and glazing

  • Under direction of the Project Manager, preparing reports, repair details and
specifications for residential, commercial and industrial buildings

  • Conduct site investigations and evaluations of existing building and structures
  • Liaising with clients and contractors to ensure all project work is compliant with the
design documents, while ensuring the projects will be delivered on time and on budget
  • Working with Senior Engineers, and taking direction as/when required
  • Provide technical support to various members of the team; assist in the investigation,
report, design development and site review phases of a variety of restoration projects.

  • Perform field investigations, which includes monitoring progress according to
specifications, and conformity to building codes and standards

  • Conduct condition survey assessments through the testing and evaluation of building
envelope systems

  • Prepare construction Working Drawings, Specifications and Terms of Reference
  • Participate in Field Review throughout the construction process, and prepare site
review reports and construction review reports


  • Completion of a post-secondary program in applied science or engineering from an
accredited College or University

  • Ability to be registered as a Professional Engineer or EIT within the Province of Ontario
  • 5 years previous experience in building science/building restoration; experience in
consulting or contracting firm preferred
  • Experience with or a good academic understanding of concrete design and concrete
behaviours; familiar with Canadian building codes and standards.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to write strong, accurate technical reports
  • Ability to work with design team and work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic team-oriented environment
  • Computer literate and proficient in the use of relevant computer applications,
including developed skills in Word, and Excel.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle for site visits
  • Ability to work overtime when required
