Job Description:
We are looking for a database and storage engineer. This position is available in Toronto, Canada and Bangalore, India. This person will play a key service delivery and support role for UnitedLayer operations directly supporting UnitedLayer customers. This person will be on-call.

Duties and Responsibilities:
7+ years of experience designing, deploying, and operating database servers, storage devices, backup tape and disk systems, and other support systems as needed to support database capacity, performance, or product functionality requirements.
Proven success implementing and supporting a production multi-tenant database and storage architectures for cloud products handling large data volumes.
Experience providing 24x7 support to production Software as a Service and / or Managed Service infrastructure, including understanding of on-call responsibilities and procedures.
7+ years of experience performing database administration tasks using multiple enterprise database products including Oracle, DB2, MSSQL, MySQL, and others.
Demonstrated ability to prepare, review, test, and execute SQL and PERL scripts to perform database administrative tasks as necessary to maintain the infrastructure.
7+ years of experience with Network Attached Storage and Storage Area Network systems and technologies such as Nimble, NetApp, EMC, or Compellent
Proven ability to act as part of UnitedLayer Operations team, continuously sharing information and assisting on projects with other team members.
Proven ability to provide excellent and ongoing support to other UnitedLayer departments as needed to solve customer and product issues in a timely manner.
Ability to deal directly with external customers in a friendly, supportive manner to troubleshoot and solve complex technical issues regarding UnitedLayer hosted performance, security, availability, and reliability.
Provide advanced troubleshooting for databases, applications and systems, determining cause and effect.
Provide mentoring and leadership to fellow administrators, system programmers and others.
Act as lead and direct other resources in support of project and operational activities.
Understand and apply advanced database administration, management and performance tuning techniques.
Function as technical liaison for database related project activities. Lead design and code reviews, define standards, recommend and establish policies.
Evaluate hardware and software requirements and be able to justify purchase decisions.
Configure and tune hardware and software to insure optimum performance and resource utilization.
Display strong inter-personal, verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Required Skills / Competencies:
Be able to work with little or no supervision and provide directions to peers.
Ability to write and present reports and interact with vendors and senior management.
Expert knowledge of at least two of the following database technologies: Oracle, DB2, MSSQL, MySQL, with demonstrated abilities in:
Debugging and performance tuning stored procedures, UDFs and triggers
Index analysis
Data normalization
Various monitoring and tuning tools such as Profiler, Spotlight
Advanced installation and configuration procedures
Hardware, including clusters, RAID, multi-processor architecture, etc.
Database replication
VBScript and advanced DTS, SSIS package design
Networking and how it relates to SQL Server connectivity
Shell scripting (i.e. command line applications, batch files, etc.)
Hands-on experience with Installation Troubleshooting, Managing and Configuration
SQL tuning, procedure tuning, and application tuning from a database prospective.

7+ years of experience in a large scale enterprise database environments.
Advanced knowledge of multi-node clustered database environments.
Knowledge of Architecting and configuring database environment for HA and DR

Qualifications include:
Excellent verbal and written and inter personal communication and customer interaction skills
Detail-oriented and ability to meet deadlines, Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
