The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a Clerical Assistant Student with Seniors Services. The Clerical Assistant Student with Seniors Services will provide general reception duties and clerical support. This position will start approximately May 7, 2020. This positon will have up to 37.5 hours per week.

Seniors Services division manages the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Long-Term Care Home, Riverview Gardens. The Home is committed to providing exceptional, residential long-term care services for approximately 320 residents, over the age of 18 in need of long-term care. The residents have access to a range of medical, personal, dietary and recreational services that the team strives to ensure the highest potential of quality of life at Riverview Gardens.

Provide reception or back-up reception as required
Keyboarding, transcription, photocopying and filing as requested
Process incoming and outgoing mail on a daily basis
Develop and design newsletters
Assist with special projects
Create templates and procedural manuals
Handle confidential information in an appropriate manner
Update files/ inventory database
Accurate data entry
Prepare annual reports
Complete software training programs/ tutorials
Summer Student Qualifications:
To qualify for this summer student position, students must currently be enrolled in school full-time for the 2019/2020 winter term (normally ending April, May or June) and/or returning to school full-time in the 2020 fall term (normally starting in August or September)
All summer students will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment

Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to students who are currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, specifically business, office administration
Because of the responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to students who possess the following:
Administrative/clerical experience in an office environment (including receptionist experience)
Customer service experience in an office environment
Experience working with families in need of assistance (through work, volunteer or co-op positions)
Solid organizational and time management skills
Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and Outlook
All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required
Experience working with the public are an asset
This position works indoors.
Hours of Work:
This position works weekday hours.
Police check requirements
This position works with vulnerable residents in a position of trust and authority, on a sustained and regular basis, in a largely unsupervised capacity. A Vulnerable Sector Screen is required (Long-Term Care Homes Act section 215 O. Reg. 79/10) prior to being accepted for employment. You must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check.
Essential physical and/or safety requirements:
Under the Long Term Care Homes Act, all employees are required to provide evidence of, or submit to, a 2-step TB skin test (TB skin tests will be completed the first day or orientation unless the new employee can provide proof of a clear TB test)
Sitting: constant sitting in a chair
Hands: constant fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (when working with files pinching is required and when working on the computer fine finger dexterity and mousing is required)
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for week of March 23, 2020.
This summer student position has an hourly wage of $14.00 to $15.00, plus vacation and statutory benefits according to the employment standards act.
