As an Intermediate Structural Design Technician /Technologist in our Ottawa office, you will have the chance to assist the structural design team by assisting with drawing production work and CADD standard enforcement on a variety of structural engineering assignments. Working with other members of the team, you'll work closely with Project /Design Managers and Design Engineers to help deliver quality project deliverables and provide ProjectWise project start-up and provide oversight and mentoring to the project team.
During your time with us, you will support the project team through all Jacobs design phases and assist with project scope, schedule, and budget with respect to drawing production. You will provide drawing production progress updates and quality audits as well as perform design and delivery coordination with project lead designers and project managers for interference checking and quality control and develop project/client specific CADD standards, CADD checklist, and drawing production quality control/assurance procedures. Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years experience in delivering structural designs including bridge structures, culverts and retaining walls.
Experience with AutoCAD is a requirement.
Strong technical skills related to CADD standards and automation.
Ability to prepare electronic drawing files within project standards, using 3D modeling /surface models, sketches, layouts, project instructions and notes.
Familiar with discipline specific data collection for internal use in estimating, specific to take-off reports.
Ability to establish close working relationship with project delivery teams, illustrating knowledge of Civil /BIM processes as they pertain to collaboration and coordination between disciplines.
Possess a strong working knowledge of advanced drafting practices and be familiar with CADD principles (i.e., text placement and editing, layering, snap, precision input, etc).
Exposure to Bentley ProjectWise, Autodesk Civil3D and Bentley Microstation would be an asset.
Experience working with multi-disciplinary team in multiple geographic offices. Exposure to Bentley Navigator and Autodesk Navisworks products.
Exposure to Bluebeam and Adobe Products.
High level of organizational skills, a good attitude, and excellent time management skills.
Ability to work in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.
Ability to set priorities and manage project changes to meet the business needs and while managing multiple projects concurrently.
Ability to establish close working relationship with project delivery teams.
Excellent verbal, communication and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail is a must.
Willingness to learn new software, products, concepts, techniques and help develop new practices and standards.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Experience undertaking and supervising field condition surveys would be an asset.
Experience undertaking OSIM inspections would be an asset.
Experience in construction administration and inspection of civil structures would be an asset.
