Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Pathways Construction Manager, the Landscape Laborer (Internally known as Skilled Labourer) is responsible for providing manual labor to construction and underground field service crews.

This is a contract position for approximately 6 months with possibility of extension/ Permanent.


  • Able to read construction plans
  • When required and if appropriately licensed and authorized, drive or operate construction equipment used on the jobsite to complete daily work assignments
  • Assist in the loading/unloading of equipment and supplies needed for daily work assignments including, but not limited to, cables and multiport
  • Clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use
  • Fully set up worksite
  • Setting up flagging
  • Opening services boxes
  • Hand pulling short run cables
  • Digging trenches using spades
  • Trench Installation for Single Family Unit (SFU) of Drop Conduit on Private Property
  • Lawn/ Pathway restoration
  • Completion of all necessary paperwork associated with related drawings
  • Complete restoration reports for submission to clients
  • Complete timesheets that are both accurate and timely
  • Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential
  • Enhancing Organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishment
  • Adhere to and promotes the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned

Personal Qualities

  • 1+ year of Lawn Maintenance & Restoration
  • Manual labour construction experience
  • Capable of working in all temperatures and climates and in confined spaces
  • Ability to travel to various site-based projects if required

Working Conditions

  • Physically demanding workload
  • Work location: Work in locations that preclude the ability to return home
  • Work hours: Shift work
  • Traveling is required

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Class 1, 3 or 5 Driver’s License
  • Certifications & Licenses not required but preferred
  • Previous Telecommunication experience is an asset

Salary: $20.00 per hour
