The Treasury Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the Treasury, Accounts Payable & Rubber Companies (“Rubco”) teams. Reporting to the Corporate Treasurer, this is a multi-faceted role that integrates two Finance stakeholder groups within the working capital cycle: Treasury and Accounts Payable.
Processes and Control
Ensures the team’s activities leverage all possible synergies to increase efficiency, strengthen working capital management and improve internal controls.
Lead change initiatives related to process & control assessment, design and automation including:
ACH/EFT payment batches;
Invoice approval and related workflow.
Explore opportunities to utilize smart automation through the implementation of Robotics (RPA), Optical Character Recognition, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies, amongst others.
Assist Accounting with Treasury and Accounts Payable inquiries, including interim and year end audits.
Ensure month end close deadlines, including reconciliation and analysis of relevant general ledger accounts, are met in accordance with established processes.
Kal Tire has domestic and international treasury requirements which involves the team working across different time zones and offices. The Treasury Manager is responsible for providing direction, instruction and guidance to a team comprising both Treasury & AR and includes:
Forecasting sources and uses of cash to mitigate day-to-day borrowing and foreign currency exposures.
Responsible for overseeing monthly bank reconciliations, including internal and external reporting, and other account analysis as required.
Working with the International Finance Managers to ensure their ongoing working capital and banking needs are met in a timely manner.
Providing training and development to the team, making improvements to existing process and models and preparing related process documents.
Accounts Payable & Rubco
The AP team handles all the general corporate disbursements of the organization while Rubco manages those payments related to the organization’s rubber/tire purchases. The Treasury Manager is responsible for supporting both groups.
Oversees all aspects of vendor invoice/statement collection and payment processing.
Keeps abreast of AP and Rubco processes by reviewing, approving and releasing payments.
Oversees continued growth of the procurement card and expense management process.
Manages accounting functions including approving journal entries, account reconciliations, internal controls and audit queries.
Maintains knowledge of group systems and be able to troubleshoot issues when needed.
Provides assistance to the broader business by responding to financial queries/concerns.
Provides overall direction, leadership and motivation to the teams.
Prepares and recommends operating and compensation plans for approval. Monitors spending for adherence to budget, recommends variances as necessary.
Provides support to senior team members/supervisors regarding:
Selecting and hiring team members;
Training and team member evaluations;
Addressing performance issues and recommending next steps.
Work with the Corporate Treasurer to ensure proper resource levels.
7+ years finance experience in a mid-large sized organization. Experience with international subsidiaries and multiple currencies considered an asset.
5 + years formal supervisory or managerial experience required.
Demonstrated experience transforming business process through re-design and automation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience in a shared services environment or team.
Excellent analytical skills.
Demonstrated aptitude for managing transformational change.
Self-starter and able to work under minimum supervision.
Good working knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices (IFRS).
Knowledge of hedge accounting.
Cash management, banking and hedging experience.
Sound working knowledge of internal controls and experience with their application.
Experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 accounting software.
Proficient with Excel.
Must have ERP AP system experience
Strong personal computer and business solutions software skills
Strong interpersonal skills for interacting accountants, clients, and upper management
Good communication skills for communicating with support personnel and management
Good presentation skills for educating internal clients on accounting principles
Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work
Post-secondary education: bachelor’s degree with a concentration in finance or accounting. CPA or CFA designation strongly preferred.
Must be bondable.
Capacity to accommodate periodic times of intense workload.
Limited travel required in conjunction with maintaining banking or supplier relationships, business acquisitions, projects, maintaining contact with operations.
