Work Description

This fast-paced role will work alongside the Project Management and Construction Superintendents to plan, organize, map out and request locates for civil infrastructure projects in the Ottawa area. The role will support the day to day operations of major construction projects and be critical in ensuring projects are delivered on time and in line with the health and safety standards upheld by Taggart Construction Limited. The successful candidate will be highly organized, methodical in their work and adaptable to project needs.

Major Responsibilities:
Daily planning and executing marking locates in the field as required.
Review construction plans and drawings alongside the Project Management team to request locates for underground utilities for various stakeholders, including Enbridge, Bell, Hydro Ottawa, Hydro One and private utilities.
Liaise and coordinate with utility companies for locate requests.
Screen locates to identify issues and establish and change priorities as needed.
Quality Checks; perform quality assurance on all third-party utility locates.
Compile, manage, and disseminate all required documentation to appropriate contacts.
Track, and update daily/weekly/monthly reports regarding locates so information is available to all required stakeholders.
Complete data entry into all required systems with accuracy including maintain locates archives.
Lead safety training pertaining to underground utilities for all field personnel, to ensure safe work procedures are being implemented when work is being executed near both underground and overhead utilities.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Statement of Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
3-5 years of relevant industry experience in utility locates, civil construction or obtaining and coordinating high volumes of data related to locates.
Diploma from a recognized program/post-secondary institution in related discipline is an asset.
Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) 100 certificate is required, 200 is preferred, or the equivalent.
Ability to work with sense of urgency demonstrating the ability to shift priorities to accomplish objectives.
Ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision.
Capability to analyze data and obtain meaningful insights from the analyzed data.
Strong attention to detail, highly organized and ability to prioritize work.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Excel, Word and Outlook with a willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
Previous experience using GPS systems to mark out utilities is preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to clearly communicate with internal and external project teams both verbally and in writing.
Strong work ethic, dedicated, and self-disciplined.
Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and resolve problems independently; monitors own quality of work.
Bilingualism (English and French) would be considered an asset.

Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment:
Valid Driver’s license is required due to the nature of the work.
Difficult weather conditions, this role will require working outdoors and on site.
Overtime as required.
Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation.
