The Director of Quality is responsible for the operation and administration of the Quality Department and Quality Management System of the company. Typical duties are to ensure audit awareness and compliance are preserved to the appropriate aviation and MTU standards, as well as establish and improve the Quality Maintenance System Facility.

General duties:

  • Manage and coordinate the activities of the Quality Center and Facility department to accomplish the goals identified for the department
  • Co-ordinate the MTU-C Quality activities with business strategies in order to improve MTU-C overall achievement
  • Coordinate the technical and procedural standards for test, repair and overhaul of accessories and engines
  • Maintain budget for department
  • Set, monitor and report to the CEO the KPIs for the Quality and Facility department; align department KPIs with goals & objectives on corporate and division level
  • Ensure audit awareness and compliance are to the appropriate aviation and MTU standards
  • Communicate and work with other managers to streamline the Quality and Facility department's efforts with other areas, both as an internal customer and vendor
  • Coordinate training of department employees, both unionized and salary, to ensure multi-tasking is optimized to maintain a high level of proficiency and adherence to the Canadian Ministry of Transport Airworthiness Standards

Operational duties:

  • Perform and ensure that quality standards and regulations are established in accordance with appropriate aviation regulations, engine manufacturer’s recommendations and customer requirements, and ensuring compliance by:
  • Establishing procedures as required and ensuring compliance
  • Ensure procurement, distribution and revision service of technical documentation
  • Ensuring the prompt submission of reports that are required by the airworthiness authorities
  • Notifying the regulatory authorities within 30 days of any changes to the maintenance organization, management personnel or facilities
  • Authorization and control of the quality aspects of the Shop Certification Authority (SCA) function including the repair processes and associated documentation
  • Ensuring that only approved parts are installed or released for service
  • Approving and controlling all revisions to the MPM and manuals controlled by the MPM
  • Maintenance of all certificates and approvals of MTU Maintenance Canada as an AMO (Approved Maintenance Organization), including initial, update and additional training of persons authorized to perform or supervise the performance of AMO functions in respect of the regulations, the standards and the AMO procedures applicable to those functions

Strategic duties:

  • Organization and documentation of the Internal Audit Program
  • Ensuring that process improvement strategies will be employed
  • Continuous reduction of the cost of non-quality
  • Co-operation and liaising with the regulatory authorities
  • Ensuring that process improvement strategies will be employed
