I am looking to add a massively important role to our Leadership Team and our company. To match our significant growth, we have restructured the organization from a pure functional org chart to a divisional structure. As a result, this has created an opening for the role of Director of Operations for our Commercial Division. This person will be on our Leadership team and reports directly to me, Liam Murphy, President of Fireball Equipment Ltd.
This role consists of five primary functions: Value Stream Leadership, Regional Management, Sales Leadership, Leadership Team member, Board.
Value Stream Leadership – Commercial Division
You will be accountable for the process flow of the Commercial Division all the way from sales through to completion of construction and handoff to our Product Support team. This will include identifying opportunities for innovation/improvement, optimizing project flow, solving issues, boosting customer satisfaction and loyalty. Engage other related support functions (Marketing, Service, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering) in optimizing value proposition in Commercial Market. Support key customer relationships and strategic account acquisition
Regional Management
We have been increasing our geographic reach over the last few years. This role would support the Regional Managers for BC and ON; both of whom are capable and experienced Fireball employees. You would also have direct oversight over project management and execution in the prairies (AB, SK, MB).
Sales Leadership
Work with our (very capable) sales team on key relationships and strategic account acquisition. Set targets, remove obstacles to allow the team to perform. Manage the use of Salesforce CRM with the sales team and collaborate with Marketing for lead generation. The right person will be able to think strategically to position our value offering uniquely in the market and capture some “blue ocean”.
Leadership Team Member
As the head of the Commercial Division, you sit on the Leadership team with the other four Directors (Marketing & Product Support, Industrial Operations, Finance & Supply Chain, and People Resources). We have worked really hard to develop a strong leadership team, as this is the driving force for the business. These leaders are hugely talented and aligned to our core values; and we will take particular caution to ensure that the successful candidate for this role is as well. While we don’t necessarily need your voice to be the loudest in the room; we need you to have a voice that elevates the conversation and augments the current team.
Advisory Board
As part of the succession plan of our founder, and to enable our Leadership team to execute more strongly on our strategy, we formed an Advisory Board in 2020. In the spirit of our core values of “We are one” and “Own it”; we involve the full leadership team in the entirety of the board meetings. You will have a significant role with the board in developing the board packages and representing the Commercial Division at the Board level. To help prepare for this experience, we would be happy to enroll you in a Corporate Governance course.
A little about us:
Our core business is to supply and install equipment for handling fuel and lubricants, and all the other work related to that. Our Commercial Division consists of 21 staff consisting of Regional Managers, Sales, Project Coordination, Installation technicians. Most of the operation is based out of Edmonton, with growth areas in BC and ON with some incredible local people. This primarily consists of the installation of lubrication equipment in maintenance shops across the country; such as fast lubes, car dealerships, heavy equipment dealerships, municipalities, fleet shops. Our Industrial Divison performs a similar scope in a very different environment – Mine sites across Canada and around the world. We are not a general construction company; more of a specialized design-build contractor and engineering house. We are well-established with strong market share in our niche; with huge growth potential by expanding our reach.
Considering our size and narrow scope, there are a lot of moving parts to this business and a lot happening at once. We have 95 staff, sales of $30M and have ambitious growth targets. We have a strategic plan that includes diversification, geographic expansion, standardization of manufactured products, data management & analytics, and service contracts.
How we do business:
We run a (sometimes shockingly) transparent and open-book company. Outside of individual compensation, nothing is off-limits for any of our staff members. We are very culture-forward, and strive to build a customized and flexible work experience. While we are a customer service organization, we put our people first and our customers second. The customer experience can never exceed the employee experience; so we’re aiming to have our employees at the pinnacle of engagement.
The ideal candidate:
- Has experience leading a B2B sales team in a project sales environment in the construction industry. Experience with parts, service, and maintenance agreements also an asset.
- Has Senior Operations/Project Management/Branch Management experience in the construction industry, ideally. The kind of person who is a "systems thinker" and can get an obscene amount accomplished through their own work and/or their influence.
- Is a humble learner who is self-motivated to dig in and learn the content, and figure things out. Not afraid to get their hands dirty if that is what's required.
- Has the talent of building a highly-engaged, supportive and thriving team culture. Elevates their team and promotes their development.
- While we are big advocates for a custom work experience, this is NOT a remote work role. We have a hybrid work option (combination in-office and work-from-home), however this role must be based out of our Edmonton, AB HQ.
