Reporting to the Director of Utilities and Energy Management, the Energy Manager manages the day to day operations of McGill’s Energy Reduction Program. Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the Energy Management Information System (EMIS), liaises with McGill stakeholders to ensure and promote the efficient use of energy within the McGill community. Collaborates with McGill’s Office of Sustainability for outreach activities and environmental reporting. Participates and collaborates in various energy initiatives. Prepares and communicates. Oversees the maintenance of the Energy Management website. Acts as Chair of McGill’s Energy Management Committee and participates to other committees as subject matter expert on energy management.

Primary Responsibilities:
Update and maintain McGill’s energy management plan, exploring new opportunities and potential energy-saving technologies.
Oversee the maintenance and operation of McGill’s energy management information system (EMIS) including hardware (energy meters) and software (energy management enterprise solution).
Monitor the implementation and validate the performance of energy conservation initiatives.
Prepare cost/benefit analyses of energy conservation measures in order to determine the return on investment of projects and justify investments in energy conservation.
Coordinate energy and carbon incentive requests with utility programs and government agencies.
Assist and work with supervisors, tradesmen, and other McGill staff in the implementation of energy conservation initiatives.
Act as subject matter expert in energy management and building commissioning on construction and renovation projects.
Liaise with utility company representatives.
Participate in the physical gas procurement process.
Validate monthly energy bills from utility companies.
Compute monthly energy charges of on-campus clients, prepare energy consumption reports and other documents.
Compute airborne contaminant release in collaboration with McGill’s Climate Officer for mandatory environmental reporting programs and McGill’s greenhouse gas inventory.
Coordinate outreach activities in and out of McGill, promoting energy conservation and McGill’s initiatives to the public.

Minimum Education & Experience:
Undergraduate Degree

Five (5) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Demonstrated experience in energy management, energy efficiency, and energy procurement. Demonstrated experience in MRV (monitoring, reporting, and validation) of energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions .Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and ability to make presentations. Proven ability to prioritize and to meet strict timelines and objectives with demonstrated ability to handle several projects simultaneously. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work in a PC environment using PowerPoint, word-processing, spreadsheets, database packages and electronic mail. Member of the “Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec “ is desirable. English and French (spoken and written).
