Health Unit Clerk

BC Cancer Vancouver, $23.51 per hour

What you’ll do

Perform receptionist functions such as directing patients, visitors and staff to the appropriate areas, answering incoming telephone calls and responding to inquiries by providing information (ie. patient appointment times) or relaying verbal and written messages to the appropriate staff members.
Request patient charts from the Health Records department in preparation for chemotherapy and daycare appointments.

Process written doctors' orders which includes:
Completing requisitions for tests or services.
Using the multi-resource scheduling system to book tests or services with the appropriate departments; books return appointments.
Booking special clinic appointments such as consultations and operating room procedures.
Completing and forwarding documentation according to procedure, such as billings for special clinics.
Recording all booking information via computer terminal.Reviewing chemotherapy wait-list daily, booking appointments and notifying patients of their appointments.
Show patients to treatment rooms; arrange for escort services, delivery of meals and snacks, and other services when requested by a nurse.

What you bring

Completion of Grade 12
Medical terminology
Typing speed of 40 WPM
Graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk Program
