Overview:
Reporting to the Quality Control (QC) Supervisor, the Laboratory Assistant - Aggregates is responsible for safely implement Quality Control for production and shipping of our products. The QC Supervisor ensures our Quality Plan is respected across our sites in the Greater Montreal Area (GMA) and in Montreal South Shore, Quebec. This is a seasonal union hourly-paid position.

Responsibilities:
Health & Safety: The Laboratory Assistant is responsible to work in a safe and effective manner following the Lafarge Safety Program and applicable legislation. The Laboratory Assistant is directly involved in risk analysis necessary for lab activities, development and application of improvement plans in relation to Health & Safety and ergonomics. They will also work efficiently and in collaboration with the different teams.

Support to Operations: The Laboratory Assistant is responsible to ensure the Quality Plan for our materials produced and shipped are applied across our GMA sites. The Laboratory Assistant will analyze the testing results and then share them with the Operations teams to ensure our products comply with specifications. Other duties include: Ensuring all testing results are entered into our QC software, participate with Operation teams to conduct production adjustments needed to ensure product conformance, as well as to prepare various corrective/preventive action plans to help achieve and improve quality results.

Technical Support and Quality Control: The Laboratory Assistant is responsible to perform administrative activities and insure all documentation is updated in order to maintain our ISO 9001/2015 Certification.

Reporting: The Laboratory Assistant will manage various reports and ensure that the technical documentation is updated according to our Quality Plan. The Laboratory Assistant is also responsible to support the Sales, Production or Administrative teams when necessary (report preparation, special projects or other special requests).

Physical attributes: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb stairs & ladders; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear and smell. Infrequently the employee is required to work in awkward situations; balance; stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees will perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment. Various PPE will include safety boots, reflective clothing, safety glasses, gloves and hard hat. Additional PPE may be required depending upon tasks.

Qualifications:
Education & Work Experience:
Post-secondary education in Civil engineering or similar (AEC)
Experience in materials quality control (an advantage)
Sound knowledge of ISO, BNQ, CSA and City of Montreal standards.
Excellent knowledge of quality control tests and best construction practices at the job sites
Must also be able to work well as part of a team and independently
Good computer skills for Windows based software
Should have excellent written and oral communication skills and capable of creating good relationships internally and externally with our customers.
Motivated
Job Language: French – spoken and written (English an advantage)
Candidates must possess a Full Class 5 Driver’s License. Availability for shift work is a must. Shifts can extend to 12 hours and are rotating and may involve some evenings or weekends to meet the needs of the business.
