Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Automation Technician performs a wide range of functions to support a diverse and complex industrial process control system. Activities include research and analysis of plant control requirements, design of solutions to implement modifications and upgrades requested by system stakeholders. Install and maintain hardware, develop and backup software applications, troubleshoot and resolve system problems and process upsets to ensure reliable and continuous operation of process and critical equipment.
Scope of functions
Comply at all times with Sunset Converting HSLP policies and procedures and continuously engage with supervisors and peers to understand and adopt company ethics and values.
Prepare preliminary procedure documents and contribute to SOP and STP development.
Develop PLC logic and HMI graphics associated with minor system changes.
Help to develop programming and data presentation standards.
Participate in control system project teams and develop solutions to resolve problems.
Assist operators and other system stakeholders to resolve day to day operational difficulties or process upsets.
Comply at all times with Control Systems Change Management procedures.
Install new equipment and work with engineers and other external groups as necessary to achieve business needs.
Assist in training and development of others, ie; technicians and trainees.
Troubleshoot and resolve control system equipment conflicts and network communication errors.
Assist operators to develop plans, programs, control sequences and HMI graphics to improve data access and process performance.
Maintain records and backups of all software, programs, control wiring and logic changes.
Ensure system integrity by following robust antivirus and secured machine access protocols.
Participate in testing and evaluation of new process control hardware and software.
Bridge (Interlock bypasses), force and modify programs and applications when approved.

DIMENSIONS - Number and Titles of Persons/Areas Supervised:
This position has no direct report or budget responsibility. The Process control systems must be maintained to ensure that plant operation remains within limits and meets all statutory and regulatory obligations.
WORKING CONDITIONS/REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
Must be capable of and willing to work on night shift and/or weekend.
Wear personal protective equipment including steel toe shoes, ears and eyes protection, or any other equipment to perform duties safely as required by the Health and Safety plan.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
The processing facilities at Sunset include converting tissue lines, robotics such as palletizer and LGV, air system i.e.: compressor, filter, dryers etc.
A DEC in electrical or electronic is highly desirable.
Experience working in a converting plant is highly desirable.
At least 3 years’ experience programming PLC’s (Allen Bradley & Siemens or similar).

Knowledge in Drive/VFD configuration, adjustment and troubleshooting.

Capability to read and understand drawing and schematic.
Good knowledge of communication type and protocol (Fiber Optic, Ethernet, TCP IP and Modbus)
Knowledge of the Electrical code
A high degree of competency reading and writing in French and English combined with strong technical and analytical skills.
