LITIGATION LEGAL COUNSEL

(Civil Litigation and Construction Law)

POSTING NUMBER: 103660

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $126,970.00 - $142,842.00

MAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE: $158,713.00

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Deputy City Solicitor, Litigation and Administrative Law this position:

Represents the City in civil litigation, including construction litigation and before administrative tribunals, as necessary, and negotiates dispute resolutions that are in the best interest of the City;
Provides sound legal advice and support to City departments to keep the City secured in its legal position and obligations and achieve appropriate solutions for the City;
Assists in drafting and interpreting by-laws and agreements;
Demonstrates a willingness to share understanding of legislative frameworks, municipal obligations and objectives and advise on policy initiatives;
Undertakes special projects and initiatives in furtherance of the Corporation’s legal direction and strategic objectives;
Attends Council and Council Committee meetings as required;
Delivers competent legal services working in multidisciplinary teams with Legal Services staff and other Departments as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Law degree and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
3-5 years related work experience, with demonstrated interest in civil litigation and/or construction litigation;
Municipal law experience considered an asset;
Exceptional communication skills and superior report writing;
Computer proficiency in MS Office suite software and on line legal research.
