Availability Required for a Relief Worker:

Relief and On-Call: Relief worker to cover scheduled vacations, stat days, emergency personal leaves and opportunities for paid on call.

Description of Duties:

Provide client support, intakes and referrals. Perform data entry. Complete light household cleaning tasks. We are a 24 hour shelter which may require coverage of shifts where regularly scheduled staff are unable to work due to emergency leave or a scheduled leave. Shifts can vary in length.

On-Call will be paid a minimum of 3 hrs/day to be available to cover awake overnight shifts should there be an emergency personal leave on the days you are scheduled.

(Current need, Tues/Thurs/Fri/Sat evenings.

Wages are $15/hr for on call and front line shifts during day/evening hours.

$17.50 for awake overnight duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Minimum 2-3 year college diploma in a related field and experience,
  • Knowledge of and ability to work according to established policies and procedures and legislation (e.g., privacy, human rights, Employment Standards Act, AODA, etc.)
  • Communication and human relations skills (using coaching and motivating techniques) to develop trusting relationships with clients; de-escalate situations)
  • Knowledge of Waterloo Region Emergency Shelter Framework
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect clients’ privacy
  • Must provide an acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check (level 3)
  • Ability to support and project Argus’ values
  • First Aid
  • Non Violence Crisis Intervention
