Digital Reporter, The Lawyer’s Daily
The Lawyer’s Daily, published digitally each weekday by LexisNexis Canada Inc., is looking for an experienced journalist with a background in news reporting to join its Legal Wire team, covering breaking news on business and corporate-commercial law and litigation.
The role
With a background in daily news reporting and familiarity with the law and legal issues, you will write several same-day news articles geared to a legal audience. Candidates should be self-starters who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This position reports to The Lawyer’s Daily’s Senior Editor, who will assign and publish the stories each day.
Key responsibilities

Writing at least two news stories per day about the Canadian legal sector, including on court decisions, government and corporate announcements, court filings/pleadings, and other industry news as it relates to business, corporate-commercial law and litigation

Taking on other reporting and story research assignments/duties as needed
Requirements

University degree or college diploma in journalism or law

Excellent reporting and writing skills, including a keen attention to detail

Excellent communication skills

Well-organized and self-motivated, including with skill/experience in researching and pitching story ideas

Able to turn work assignments around quickly without losing quality or accuracy
-
Able to work effectively with team members to ensure high-quality production of fast-breaking stories
-
Sound knowledge of Canadian Press style

Experience writing about Canadian law, legal developments and practice

Job characteristics
This is a permanent full-time position. The LexisNexis Canada office is located in Toronto (North York), but the successful candidate may work remotely on either a full-time or part-time basis.
