We are looking for Pension Manager to join our close-knit growing team, and we hope our search ends now, with you.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Pension department as well as assuming the role of Office Manager for the Woodbridge site. The incumbent is responsible for meeting the department’s service and quality commitments through coaching, mentoring and feedback of the team, ensuring compliance with Pension regulatory authorities in Canada, keeping on top of all projects and initiatives, supporting a highly customer-focused environment, and fostering effective relationships between the department and other operational units.

The successful incumbent has expert knowledge of defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans, hands on experience in all areas of pension benefits administration preferably with Multi-Employer Pension Plans, superior customer service skills and the ability to improve efficiency by identifying and implementing process improvements. The Manager works closely with staff and all other departments to ensure the smooth flow of information required in order to meet department standards, deadlines and targets.

As you will be required to present in client meetings, exceptional communication and presentation skills will be a vital part of this role. Your strong communication, interpersonal and listening skills will also be important as will your ability to provide constructive feedback.

Practically speaking, you will be required to:
Manage the daily operations of the Pension Department by supporting and coaching the team, ensuring the work is prioritized and identifying “at risk” calculations.
Work closely with Senior Pension Compliance Specialist to stay on top of legislative developments and ensure compliance with existing legislation and plan for upcoming changes.
Liaise with fund actuaries and legal counsel as required.
Ensure legislated service commitments are met. while at the same time maintaining the quality commitments of 100% accuracy.
Participate in any client and plan membership meetings as required.
Provide backup support to any role and assist when necessary.
Prepare annual performance management plans, providing growth and knowledge development opportunities.
Motivate staff with acknowledgement and recognition.
Improve efficiency by identifying and implementing process improvements.
Participate in biweekly Management team meetings representing the Pension department; maintain strong working relationships with the other Department managers.
Effectively deal with staff conflict to achieve satisfactory working relationships, including performance evaluations and career development (training) plans.
Resolve organizational and customer related issues.
Assist with the preparation of the Pension Department budget.
Success in this role would be the mastery of the processes you touch on a day-to-day basis.

Additional consideration will be given to bilingual, English and French, candidates.


Post-secondary degree or diploma in a business-related field.
Industry designation in employee benefits field (e.g. PPAC, CEBS) an asset.
7-10 years progressive experience in administration of defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans.
Minimum of 3 years managerial experience. Proven ability to take initiative, set direction and resolve issues.
Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and develop staff.
Well-developed research and analytical skills in conjunction with a detailed knowledge of governing legislation and regulations and Income Tax regulations related to Pension Plans.
Knowledge of actuarial calculations and principles applicable to pension plans.
Multi-employer pension benefit experience, including pension processing preferred.
Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment, including superior time management and organizational skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
Ability to interpret plan rules and define system requirements.
