Bishop’s University is seeking A Career Counselling Office Assistant for a temporary part-time position in the Student Affairs department. Reporting to the Manager of Counselling & Accessibility Services, the incumbent will provide administrative support to the Career Counselling office and educational services to Bishop’s University students about their job search, tools and strategies. The incumbent will also work in collaboration with the Career Counsellor to coordinate career exploration and professional recruitment activities at Bishop’s. This position has a workweek of 0 to 25 hours per week from Monday to Friday with occasional evenings and weekends required. The working period will be from Mid-August to Mid-June annually. This position will not exceed two years.
Nature of Duties & Responsibilities
With guidance from the Career Counsellor, create and improve existing workshops, activities and online resources designed to prepare students for their school to work transition;
Greets students and direct them to appropriate internal/external resources;
Answers incoming calls, emails and correspondences where appropriate;
Provide basic first level support for students who seek assistance with the job search process;
Provide support for the coordination of Career Boot camp and Career Day events;
Facilitate small information sessions specific to the job search process;
With guidance from the career counsellor, create a series of “best practice” tools and resources for job searches;
Act as the point of contact and liaise with internal and external stakeholders such as the SRC, Experiential Learning coordinators, and Academic Facilitators to plan, promote and coordinate networking cafes and other activities for each faculty;
Liaise with the business community, the BU student association and clubs to promote Bishop’s Career Counselling events to encourage their participation;
Work closely with and support the Student support Services team as required;
Update the career counselling website and social media channels;
Performs additional similar / related task as required.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience;
Experience coordinating events and workshops;
Excellent organizational skills;
Experience updating website and social media sites;
Excellent customer service skills;
Excellent communication skills in both English and French;
Light and medium exertion, regularly;
Classification: Class 6 $18.85 to $24.58 per hour (APBU – unionized position)
