Role

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning, Budgeting and Purchasing, with the Finance division, the Cost Management Analyst is vitally involved in preparing the Cost Management Program for the organization; especially in the development of contribution margin for each line of business and overseeing the maintenance of the Activity-Based Costing system to meet the MOL requirements as changes arise. Working collaboratively across divisions, the Cost Management Analyst will analyze financial data to help answer key business questions, including how to better understand, create, and deliver value to the customer. The Cost Management Analyst will support key financial indicator reporting requirements to evaluate organizational financial performance as well as year-end preparation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cost Management Activities And Internal Support & Administration (100%)
Prepares and performs cost management activities as per the direction of the Manager, Financial Planning, Budgeting and Purchasing, including:
Reviews all lines of business to determine their respective fixed and variable costs;
Coordinates the performance of pricing for all lines of business; collaborates with the client services department and IRPD department to recommend the pricing strategies for the organization.
Conducts contribution margin review for each major line of business for the organization (training, consulting services, product sales, safety group, system conference, regional conferences, strategic alliance, volunteer services, strategic support services (i.e. HR, IT and Finance), etc.) and collaborates effectively with internal clients services and various levels of management to develop the appropriate benchmark of each contribution margin for all services.
Plans, gathers data, conducts and implements cost and time studies to analyse and establish benchmarking contribution margin on a regular basis to ensure the costs components arereflected at the current realistic and achievable levels.
Develop and maintain contribution margin tools related to the various lines of business for the Customer Acquisition and Retention division teams.
Reviews historical information for different revenue streams and provide analysis to set appropriate targets and goals for the organization. Reviews and monitors revenue generation and provides effective forecast of revenue generation on a quarterly basis.
Using activity cased costing to develop and analyze CM outputs and provides effective recommendations and plan of actions to improve cost management program.
Use Activity-Based Cost Management to add-value for the end process/products
Use Activity-Based Cost Information to improve processes
Uses Activity-Based costing to determine the cost of customers and develop the pricing strategies
Develops and produces timely, quality reports on revenue, cost and contribution margin and profit margin analysis on a regular basis to support WSPS Senior Management Group’s decision making process.
Act as a consultant to internal divisions on customer/contract profit and loss analysis for new/existing business.
Work with the product development team on various projects as the finance lead and various teams across the organization on cost reduction initiatives, including recommending ways to control costs within the budget and CM with the goal of achieving increased efficiencies.
Audit and validate the system data integrity for financial reporting purposes as IT system changes and upgrades are performed. Collaborate with IT and other divisions to investigate in any identified issues and recommend solutions in a timely manner to ensure the efficiency and accuracy of system generated reports.
Actively participates in departmental projects that contribute to the vision and mission of the organization by establishing appropriate Contribution Margin for each project.

Education and experience:
Post-Secondary University/College degree/diploma in Accounting or related program, or a related discipline with equivalent experience.
5 years demonstrated experience in strong and effective financial analytical skills.
3 years demonstrated experience in cost management preparation techniques/modeling and analysis.
Proven ability to proactively identify risks and opportunities and recommend supported solutions where action is required to be taken or decisions need to be made.
Ability to handle sensitive financial information in strictest confidence.
Exemplary customer service skills, excellent organizational abilities, attention to details, accounting knowledge gained through experience and education, strong report writing skills, and verbal communication skills.
Project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple projects and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines when necessary
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision as well as in a team environment to share/transfer knowledge.
High level of proficiency in applicable software programs such as Excel, Great Plains (including project accounting), Microsoft Dynamics (CRM), SalesForce etc.
Competent in using Windows, Word, Access, Power Point and Outlook programs
Valid Driver's License.
