Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is an integral part of the Accounting team and is responsible for managing the full cycle accounting process, compliance with financial reporting policies and adherence to key financial controls.
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare monthly journal entries to ensure financial records are accurate, timely and in accordance with US GAAP and FAMM (Sysco)
Prepare, analyze, and ensure full completion of monthly financial reporting packages
Identify financial exposures and address aged or unreconciled items in a timely manner
Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including complex accounts such as intercompany consolidation & accounting, payroll, customer allowances and maintaining the fixed asset sub ledger.
Actively involved in mentoring and training of Accountant team
Act as a subject matter expert for internal departments, provide information and support to the Assistant Controller and Controller.
Prepare and distribute weekly/monthly/quarterly & annual financial reports that are internal/external/corporate
Monitor compliance with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) regulations and ensure operating effectiveness of key controls by performing testing. Implement remediation solutions
Identify best practices and process improvement opportunities and assist in implementation
Assist with annual budgeting process
Collaborate with other members of the finance team to achieve overall Operating Company objectives.
Preparation of ad hoc reporting and analysis as required
Responsible for compliance with all Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) comprising Sysco’s Food Safety Program, specific for the assigned role.
Assist Food Safety Program Manager in ensuring compliance to Sysco’s Food Safety Program that leads to compliance with third party certification and customer requirements.
Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.
Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
Perform other duties as assigned.
3+ years in progressive accounting/finance roles
Completion of professional accounting designation or equivalent
Completion of post-secondary Accounting Diploma/Degree required.
Working towards professional accounting designation or equivalent experience/education.
Intermediate level Excel
PC skills (including Word) and accurate keying skills.
