FAMILY PRACTICE | LOW-RISK OBSTETRICS OPPORTUNITY!!
Are you passionate about rural medicine and outdoor adventure? Do you want to spend more time in the great outdoors and less time commuting? If your answer is yes, this Family Practitioner/Obstetrics opportunity in Terrace might be for you!
We are a diverse group of Family Practitioners in Terrace who love our community and are looking for a family doctor who wants to provide intrapartum obstetrical care to join us. We are a teaching site for UBC Medicine (Family Practice Residency and Integrated Clinical Clerkship) and have three Primary Care clinics to choose from. Our specialist colleagues provide outstanding, timely, empathic, and educational support. The OBGYNs in Terrace are exceptional and deeply committed to supporting rural GP obstetrics care.
Our obstetrical group is a close-knit bunch providing prenatal, on-call labour and delivery, and postpartum care to Terrace and surrounding communities including the First Nations communities of Kitsumkalum, Kiteslas, and Nisga'a and towns of Kitimat and Hazelton.
On-call is scheduled as approximately 1 in 4, 24 hour shifts providing intrapartum and obstetrical triage care on the labour floor and maternity ward, with 72 hours over the weekend from Friday to Monday mornings. Approximately 350 births/year.
We run a prenatal clinic one half day per week and post natal clinics for unattached dyads throughout the week. These clinics are run by an awesome MOA. There’s a very skilled lactation consultant in the community who is a veteran NICU respiratory therapist and who loves teaching. Our labour floor nursing team is stellar - kind, smart, passionate, respectful, skilled. Community support includes public health nursing, mental health care, and midwifery.
If you join our community, there are countless opportunities to provide full scope care. Emergency medicine (with an exciting group of family docs and CCFP(EM) docs, journal clubs, SIM), community Primary Care, Women's Wellness including medical terminations of pregnancy, an Opioid Agonist Therapy Clinic, and Hospital Inpatient Care on a busy Medical Surgical ward (where, again, the nursing staff is stellar!). Other opportunities include OR surgical assisting, working in a FFS minor procedures clinic, and engaging in the Terrace Physician Initiative Group Society to support physicians to make change in the health care system and improve their work environment and patient care. TPIGS is part of Facility Engagement (FE), resulting from a master agreement between Doctors of BC and the Provincial Government, the first initiative of its kind in Canada.
