Loblaw has always been committed to continuous improvement and organizational development. In the retail pharmacy business, we constantly strive to improve our processes and evolve in an ever-changing healthcare environment. As the role of the Pharmacist continues to expand so should that of the Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) particularly in very busy dispensaries. We propose expanding and redefining the role of a qualified RPhT to that of a “Dispensary Supervisor”.

In this new model, the Pharmacist Manager continues to be the Designated Manager with the College and remains in charge of all pharmacy activities and staff members including the Dispensary Supervisor and does so without having to manage all technical and administrative aspects of pharmacy operations. The Dispensary Supervisor reports directly to the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager. The Pharmacy Manager remains the primary point of contact with the Director of Pharmacy Operations and retains ultimate responsibility for pharmacy operations. Achieving a balance between the professional oversight of the pharmacist(s) on duty and the operational oversight of the Dispensary Supervisor would ultimately free up pharmacists to focus more on patient centered services like Medication reviews, Prescription renewals, Immunization services etc., all of which in turn enhance patient care, build trust and foster loyalty. Loblaw leads through innovation and we believe that the next development in Pharmacy is to have a carefully chosen Registered Pharmacy Technician who can help manage the dispensary under this newly redefined role of Dispensary Supervisor.

Dispensary Supervisor Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all daily operations to ensure that the pharmacy runs efficiently.
Organize and manage the workloads and priorities of the team.
Provide regular coaching to non Pharmacist team members to maximize productivity and individual development
Conduct product verification on both regular prescriptions and compliance packs to ensure accuracy and completeness of prescription orders
Ensure the team is informed on current and new processes by participating in conference calls and by holding regular team huddles to disseminate any pertinent information
Work with the Pharmacy Manager to formulate, implement and drive continuous improvement of efficient processes and best practices and review opportunities for improving the business and growth opportunities
In partnership with the Pharmacy Manager track objectives to ensure they are being met for labour, inventory levels, professional services, compliance packs and prescription growth.
Promote and support the execution of all patient care services (Flu shots, Compliance packs, Delivery service, clinics etc.)
Train Drop-off colleagues to identify opportunities for professional services.
Keep Pharmacy manager up to date with all activities within the pharmacy on a regular basis
Communicate regularly and on an “as needed” basis with various stake holders of the business such as, but not limited to, the Store manager and the Pharmacy Operations team.
Prepare non – Pharmacist schedules while ensuring that proper daily staffing levels are in place and that proper team members are utilized to optimize performance
Help the Pharmacy Manager performance manage Assistants and Clerks by providing candid feedback and support
Delegate tasks to the proper team member to optimize workflow and to ensure completion in a timely and efficient manner
Ensure effective integration of new hires, including training and follow-up during probationary periods and thereafter to ensure successful onboarding. Example: TOP training
Provide ongoing training for all new and existing pharmacy colleagues
Update STAS and ensure payroll is submitted each week specific to non – Pharmacist Colleagues.
Monitor and review weekly projections and labour management processes with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure proper allocation of hours and task management
Strive for continuous improvement in sales and script growth and maintain a thorough understanding of the business.
Oversee inventory management on a regular basis and ensure that manage WIS inventory count preparation and execution
Manage returns and drug recalls.
Ensure that specialty items, medications, and over the counter inventory levels are adequate to meet customers’ needs
Resolve any issues with Pharmacy Enhanced Support (PES), third party billing, IT, audits, manual reversals, ordering processes etc.
Inform patients and staff about the Drug Stewardship Program and encourage them to observe safe medication practices by safely returning any unwanted medications and medical sharps
Perform quarterly Naloxone reporting and temperature log reporting where mandated
Complete medication incident reports and develop an action plan with the Pharmacy Manager to educate staff to prevent reoccurrence
Work collaboratively with the Pharmacist on Duty to help resolve patient issues and concerns in a timely and positive manner while utilizing outstanding customer service skills and a strong sense of professionalism
Frequently check Flip and generic pharmacy email account and respond to any actionable items
Support outreach activities like Physician outreach, Community outreach and community engagement activities
Ensure compliance with provincial and federal pharmacy regulations as well as Loblaw Standard Operating Procedures and Policies
Maintain pharmacy conditions and standards according to the Loblaw Accountability Report, Monthly Self Audits and Accreditation.
Perform any duties delegated by the Pharmacy manager.
Responsible for providing positive team leadership and promoting engagement amongst the Pharmacy team
In collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager, accountable for the financial and operational success of the department
Review and control costs at all levels within Loblaw Pharmacy
Communicate effectively with Pharmacy Manger to Coordinate projects and awareness of team schedule to ensure adequate coverage for absent colleagues

What you will need:
Registered pharmacy technician certification and maintained registration with appropriate pharmacy association where applicable
A professional and positive approach to communicating with all colleagues.
Strong and collaborative leader and team player
High level of professionalism
Knowledge of technical specialties, related process
Ability to implement practical procedures of systems which are moderately complex
Leadership and organizational skills
Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle cash accurately
Experience with Kroll or Health Watch an asset
Respect for the confidential and individual rights of our customers
Understanding financial and operational success of the department
Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, suppliers, physicians and customers
