Description:
The Unit Manager will report to and assist the Patient Care Manager in ensuring the provision of high quality and safe patient care on the Pediatric Cardiac Sciences & GI Inpatient unit through the effective and efficient management of human, material, and financial resources. The Unit Manager has a clinical leadership component of the role with active participation in the coordination of clinical activities by providing day to day guidance and support for the staff working on the unit, daily assignment of patients, staff scheduling, staff evaluation, multidisciplinary rounds, and identifying and attempting to resolve patient family and staff concerns. The Unit Manager will maintain open and timely communication with the multidisciplinary team and Patient Care Manager, as well as working collaboratively with different program areas within the Stollery Children’s Hospital to support services provided to patients. The Unit Manager will promote and participate in the identification and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to enhance the care to patients on the unit. The Unit Manager will work with the Patient Care Manager and multidisciplinary team in promoting a team environment. The Unit manager will take an active role in the implementation and integration of connect care.

Required Qualifications:
Current CARNA registration and Basic Cardiac Life Support are mandatory. A minimum of five years recent clinical experience in acute care pediatric nursing, and demonstrated evidence of leadership and supervisory skills are required. Key competencies include the ability to manage, delegate and prioritize work effectively. Ability to lead teams, promote collaboration, identify, and implement change and demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative through excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must possess strong interpersonal skills in conflict resolution.

Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered.
