THE COMPANY:

Our well-established client is looking to hire an Assistant Warehouse Manager to join their Distribution Centre in Mississauga.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting directly to the Warehouse Manager, the role of the Assistant Warehouse Manager is to assist with overseeing all operations in the warehouse. The Assistant Warehouse Manager is responsible for the efficient flow of goods in and out of the warehouse(s), in a manner which maximizes both company efficiencies and customer satisfaction.

As the successful candidate in this role, you will ensure that all warehouse service objectives are met while contributing to a safe, positive and collaborative working environment for all. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to facility maintenance and maintaining the inter-group relationships required for operations to be successful.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of post-secondary in warehousing, transportation, supply chain management, inventory control and/or materials management would be considered an asset
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct managerial experience of 50+ team members including supervisors/leads in a distribution operations, supply chain or transportation environment
  • Must possess excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional conflict resolution skills, diplomacy and tact
  • Demonstrates critical thinking abilities on a continuous basis
  • Advanced knowledge of reviewing, analyzing, implementing and improving KPI’s
  • Possess strong quantitative and mathematical acumen
  • Must be highly disciplined in time management
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse documentation
  • Must be extremely business oriented and possess good financial cognizance
  • Possess strong negotiating skills and a demonstrated ability to manage people in a team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • Fully fluent in English - reading, writing and verbal
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office / Windows / Outlook / Warehouse Mgmt. Technology
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Display a high level of self-motivation
  • High-energy, motivated leader that takes great initiative every day
  • Machine Operator experience (cherry picker/counter balance) is a must
  • Experience with change management
  • Experience with 3rd party logistics and secondary offsite facilities would be an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 40 hours per week; occasional overtime
  • Must be capable of working in both an office and warehouse environment
  • Periodic travel required to warehouses and/or management meetings

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Oversee the day to day operation of the warehouse
  • Manage the daily operations through delegation of responsibilities to ensure effective supervision of all warehouse functions
  • Lead and manage team of managers, supervisors and warehouse associates in a fast paced environment to achieve required objectives
  • Ensure that departmental targets are set and consistently met (e.g. receiving turnaround, order processing turnaround and accuracy, cycle count program)
  • Sufficient degree of cross-training of staff to ensure continued efficient operation of department
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager with developing the annual budget for the warehouse, ensuring that the expense targets are monitored to ensure compliance
  • Ensure that annual and monthly reviews are done on time and wage adjustments are within the set guidelines
  • Create and maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Successfully manage process improvement projects and possess the ability to react to change productively and proactively
  • Update KPI dashboards of key areas and provide input to senior leadership
  • Plan and forecast resource/process requirements to meet business objectives while maintaining the financial goals of the warehouse
  • Ensure that warehouse is safe, secure, and complies with WCB regulations & enforce safety rules and regulations
  • Set and maintain departmental targets for efficiency and accuracy to ensure that the flow of goods through the facility is done in an optimum manner
  • Develop effective partnerships with freight carriers
  • Ensure effective management of inventory in warehouse
  • Develop, finalize and deliver, together with warehouse supervisors, all performance appraisals for direct reports in a timely manner
  • Provide effective coaching and feedback on a regular basis to direct reports
  • Responsible for training managers and supervisors in the warehouse how to conduct effective performance evaluation of associates (KPI, probationary etc.)
  • Responsible for developing, training and mentoring managers, supervisors and associates
  • Member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee participating in monthly meetings
  • Actively assists the JHSC with investigations and resolving any past, ongoing and new findings
  • Complete and submit employee incident reports to Warehouse Manager and Human Resources right away
  • Maintain valid first aid certification

PROJECTS & CONTINUING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, discuss and implement process improvements
  • Increase efficiency and productivity to achieve budget targets and operational KPI’s/metrics
  • Review and analyze individual and group performance
  • Review and approve employee timesheets
  • Ensure warehouse standards and policies are upheld
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations
  • Make specific performance level placement and salary recommendations, for all direct reports.
  • Assign/delegate tasks as required
  • Promote the companies Vision, Values and Mission statement
  • Formulate employee training and cross training
  • Additional duties as required by Warehouse Manager

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS & COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Conducts general warehouse meetings
  • Creates and facilitate regular team building events
  • Coaches employees in warehouse procedures
  • Addresses customer service concerns and inquiries
  • Works in cooperation and communicates effectively with all levels of the organization’s team
  • Works closely with all internal departments to ensure superior customer service
  • Works closely with Human Resource Department providing support and feedback to continuously improve policies ensuring they are successfully implemented and enforced
  • Works closely with co-chair and members of the JHSC to ensure safety remains a top priority
  • Keeps co-workers informed of activities that have implications to their department
  • Collaborates with the operations leadership team to maintain and improve a progressive company culture
  • Supports senior leadership in the execution of strategic plans and work together with workmates to understand, communicate and attain business goals
  • Maintains a facilitating role with subordinates
  • Has the ability to give and take constructive criticism
  • Supports and responds to the company’s customer needs and requests in a timely manner.
  • Openly communicates any successes, concerns, or problems related to the job
  • Must hold themselves and warehouse team accountable – communicating successes and feedback on a regular basis
  • Maintains a positive, upbeat attitude and promotes high team moral while focusing on productivity, accuracy, inventory control and overall performance of staff in the warehouse
  • Actively supports the development, training and performance of the operations team
  • Promotes a safe and positive culture at all times
