Job Description
Provides mechanical engineering technology expertise and support for the design, specification, installation, commissioning and acceptance of new and modified equipment for the Mail Operations community. Leads technical projects related to the modification and upgrading of equipment.

Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Officer, Mechanical Engineering Technologies:

Carries out activities involving mechanical design including Computer-Aided Design (CAD) use, specification writing, and the testing and acceptance of new and modified equipment. Participates as a team member on major projects, undertakes projects of lesser scope and complexity, individually, or as leader of resources assigned to the project.

Provides mechanical engineering technology expertise and support to Mail Operations, Engineering and Process Design groups and other Corporate functions for the definition of user requirements. Designs and develops new and modified equipment to meet the user requirements.

Prepares complex procurement specifications and cost estimates for equipment and prepares the necessary drawings

Prepares technical portion of contract documents; conducts the analysis of proposals and recommends acceptance or rejection
Job Responsibilities (continued)
Monitors the work of contractors, engineering students, technicians and personnel to ensure conformity to specifications and contract documents. Participates in the acceptance of new and modified equipment by conducting inspections and tests, identifying deficiencies, and recommending corrective action

Develops technical support documentation for equipment. Writes documentation, maintenance manuals, and technical information bulletins for the equipment and also prepares conceptual and manufacturing drawings using CAD tools.

Acts proactively, undertaking regular reviews of equipment and related mail handling procedures and processes, in order to recommend changes for improvement and operational efficiency

Provides mechanical technology support and expertise to the Plant Technical Services, the Engineering and Technology, the Procurement departments and other corporate functions


Bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering
Preference for professional Engineering Designation


Minimum 2 years’ experience (preference for higher experience levels) in designing with various materials and manufacturing methods
Minimum 2 years’ experience using 3D CAD software for design

Other Candidate Requirements

Project leadership involving communication with a number of stakeholders
Experience must also include the preparation of technical documentation, engineering drawings, reports and presentations
