Lafarge is recruiting a Heavy Duty Mechanic for a permanent position located in Exshaw AB. (Exshaw is a small community located approximately 90 kms west of downtown Calgary and 15kms east of Canmore).

Heavy Duty Mechanics are responsible for large industrial mobile equipment used in all areas of the plant such as loaders, excavators and rock trucks. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.

Ability to perform under pressure and react to emergency situations in a calm and collected manner.
Good interpersonal skills
Follow direction and instructions.
Inspecting bull dozers. Loaders. Haul truck and other heavy Mobile equipment.
Diagnosing faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems using hand and power tools.
Communicate on a constant basis with the Mobile Supervisor.
Testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications.
Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
Service attachments and working tools such as blades, ploughs, winches and side booms
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.
Maintains knowledge of ET and SIS.
Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.

General safety in and around equipment and operating plant
Reporting unsafe job sites and procedures
Maintain a positive image to the customers and the general public
Ability to plan work and self direct
Ability to work in fast-paced environment

Must have:
Heavy-Duty off Road Diesel Mechanic Journeyman Ticket with Red Seal
Strong numeracy skills
Good oral communication skills
Good document comprehension skills

Experience and Skill Set:
Valid class 5 drivers license
Knowledge and experience with hydraulics and air brakes
Knowledge and experience with gas and diesel engines
Knowledge and experience with electrical systems and schematics

Careful consideration will be given to the following qualifications:

Physical fitness
Ability to perform the work
Have a good understanding of Heavy Quarry Equipment
Good decision making ability
Be competent operating a laptop computer

The working environment is indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, as well as extreme heat and dust in certain parts of the plant.

Pre-employment medical including drug & alcohol testing and a criminal record check may be required.
