We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Librarian to join our staff. We serve the local community of Gitsegukla First Nation, from young children to Elders. You will be working with school staff to collaborate on educational programs to support literacy in the school. We also have a high volume of fiction and non-fiction lending with an extensive collection of First Nations authors and resources. The position is 3 days per week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 1-6 pm hours per week. Our patrons are students during the day time hours of 1-3:30 and then the library is open to the community from 3:30 to 6pm.


Reporting to the Principal or assigned designate, the Librarian is responsible for:

  • Assist patrons with finding reference materials and leisure reading materials when asked
  • Document and organize inventory
  • Maintain library inventory and conduct periodic audits of the information on file
  • Help patrons navigate records and periodicals
  • Work in collaboration with teachers/EAs to design appropriate program for grade level
  • Read stories to groups of children three afternoons per week
  • Create and implement new programs to attract patrons of different demographics, such as socials and author signings
  • Check books and other materials in and out of the library
  • Teach patrons how to use the library database and its functions
  • Plan and host book sales/parties on a monthly basis
  • Manage the acquisitions of new materials
  • Report to Principal

Other duties include:

  • Performs other duties such as hauling, ordering, organizing and storing supplies
  • Completes timesheets accurately and in a timely matter
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Principal.

Other Requirements

  • Must review and follow all Gitsegukla Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to successfully and periodically undergo an appropriate criminal records review and police record check is required
