Reporting to the Senior Manager, Taxation, the Manager, Taxation will serve a critical role within the George Weston Limited tax department, which provides corporate tax services to Loblaws, Choice Properties REIT, and Weston Foods. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the Canadian tax reporting obligations of the Loblaw group of companies and will work closely with key internal partners at Loblaw, fellow tax professionals at George Weston, and external service providers when carrying out these responsibilities.
Manage the tax reporting cycle for certain companies of the Loblaw group of companies (excluding the Shoppers Drug Mart group) including the tax provision, government tax returns, book-to-file review, forecasting and tax audits.
Assist with the quarterly financial statement tax reporting process, including assisting the Sr. Manager with the preparation of the total consolidated quarterly income tax provisions, financial statement notes and quarterly tax management report as well as assisting with responses to requests from external financial statement auditors.
Manage government tax audits for your assigned companies including the preparation of information to be provided to Canadian tax authorities.
Implement and document processes and controls with a continuous improvement mindset and utilize technology wherever possible.
Maintain an understanding of IFRS tax reporting guidelines for proper tax provision reporting purposes.
Other tasks as assigned by the Sr. Manager which may include performing tax research on key tax reporting matters, preparing tax memoranda or assisting with process improvements.
Designated Chartered Professional Accountant or equivalent with 3-5 years of experience in a comparable tax role.
Completion of CICA In-Depth Tax Course or Masters of Taxation Degree.
Income tax provision and Canadian tax compliance experience in a professional services firm and/or industry. Experience in corporate tax research is an asset.
Current knowledge and experience with International Financial Reporting Standards.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to liaise with all levels of management.
Strong organizational and analytical skills with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities and see projects to completion.
Ability to work collaboratively with peers and colleagues to deliver results.
