Reporting to the Department Manager or designate, the Assist Head Nurse - Diagnostic Imaging provides effective clinical leadership and functional supervision, in addition to front line Registered Nurse duties as outlined in the RN or RPN Job Description. The Assistant Head Nurse is expected to promote quality patient care and team effectiveness through clinical and professional role modeling. The Assistant Head Nurse supports a respectful workplace by using effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to promote achievement of organizational goals and attention to policies and procedures. The AHN acts as a role model and resource to staff for leadership and professional development and clinical competency. This position has responsibility to both unit and site wide education and initiatives.
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Recent AHN or supervisor experience. Demonstrated experience in clinical nursing practice, of which a minimum of 5 years clinical nursing experience is required. Must have strong clinical nursing skills with experience in clinical practice, leadership, facilitation, coaching, people management, change management champion as well as quality and operational improvement. Proficient in IV therapy, procedural sedation, medication management, PICC management, Chest Tubes. Recent experience working in DI. Flexible and adaptable. Knowledge of acute care is required. Must be able to stand and walk for the majority of the shift. Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs. Must be able to wear lead vest/apron/neck for long periods of time.
Proficient in Microsoft applications (excel, word, Power Point, email,), VAX, Netcare. ACLS assets. Advanced ECG interpretation assets. Must be open minded to new process change (Connect Care implementation).
