As an integral member of Allied Health, the Exercise Leader in the Cardiac Rehabilitation will: actively participate during the regular exercise and resistance training classes and assists case managers and physician; collaborate with case managers to plan and perform the resistance training information sessions, and classes; monitor patient status and assists in the safe and efficient functioning of all equipment including emergency and AV equipment during lectures and exercise classes; liaise between assigned patients, Cardiac Rehabilitation Supervisor and physician; perform ongoing assessment of assigned patients, recognizing signs and symptoms and communicates pertinent information to the class supervisor; lead warm-up exercises; monitor exercise intensity/duration during supervised exercise classes; perform patient blood pressures and pulse checks; respond to emergencies and follows established procedures; document relevant information; demonstrate understanding of, compliance with, and commitment to, patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for patients.
Baccalaureate Degree in a Heath Science Profession preferred OR
A Community College Diploma in Fitness and Lifestyle Management
Knowledge of cardiac rehabilitation with a minimum of 1 year clinical experience preferred
Knowledge of resistance training principles for the cardiac population
Ability to work well in a team environment
Proven experience of group training principles
Excellent interpersonal skills
Flexibility to meet patient and program needs
