Boys & Girls Club of Greater Victoria’s mission is to provide safe, supportive places where children, youth and families experience opportunity, overcome barriers, develop skills, positive relationships and confidence for successfully leading their lives and communities. We provide social, recreational and developmental services to children, youth and their families that support all aspects of our mission. The Agency supports practice through a trauma-informed lens, placing a priority on participant safety, choice, and self-determination. All Boys & Girls Club programs support participant empowerment and skill development. Boys & Girls Club operates accredited programs approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

The program

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Programs Team Lead, the Youth Worker is responsible for participant supervision, program implementation, record keeping and reporting, facilitating life and social skills development (eg: prosocial behavior, communication and life skills) and the ensuring the safety and risk management of Youth while engaged in our programs.

The Youth Worker is expected to build relationships with children, youth, families and other community partners involved in the program. The successful candidate will bring to their role: energy, organization, accountability, flexibility, creativity, passion for empowering youth, and a general attitude of support to the Boys and Girls Club as well as the community served. The program serves youth from age 8 to 18 that live in and around the Brentwood Bay community.


  • Experience working with and engaging vulnerable youth with complex needs
  • Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or Education preferred. Training or coursework relating to child and youth development (this can include child development, psychology, ASIST - Suicide Intervention Training, Responsible Adult courses, health and safety, nutrition etc..)
  • Knowledge of Cultural Safety and Trauma-Informed practices
  • Knowledge of First Nations Culture
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work tasks with exemplary organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with preventative strategies for guiding children’s behaviour
  • Demonstrated success developing relationships with children, youth, families, and community members and organizations
  • First Aid & CPR C (or ability to obtain)
  • Class 4 Driver’s License, an asset
  • A criminal record check will be processed prior to employment

We offer

  • Wage: $17.25 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
  • Term: ASAP-June 30, 2020
  • Hours: Up to 25 hours per week (Monday-Friday 2-6pm) bi weekly Fridays 6-10pm & staff and supervision meetings)
  • Location: Kaare Norgaard Club, 1233 Clarke Rd. Brentwood Bay V8M 1E2
