Reporting to the Lead, Operational Regulatory Approvals, the Environmental Coordinator, Regulatory Approvals is responsible for providing coordination support to Elkview Operations and obtaining non-major permits to maintain ongoing operations. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Regulatory Approvals Team, however the role will be site based with some attendance to the Regulatory Approvals Office in Sparwood.

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Support implementation of the Social, Environmental and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) aspects of non-major projects through coordination of permit applications
Be a key point of contact and resource for regulatory approvals at the operation
Complete day-to-day, ‘Non-Major’ operational permitting
Coordinate with operational teams to complete quality applications for water licensing, approvals for instream works, effluent permitting, permitting under the Mines Act, licensing to allow tree clearing, applications for access and drilling activities, and other types of environmental permitting where required.
Forecast permits, licenses, notices, and approvals needs and schedule by attending regular site engineering, mine development, exploration and other departmental meetings to stay apprised of activities that may require regulatory approval
Coordinate with Regulatory Approvals Coordinators on the submission, and tracking of site projects and associated permits, licenses, notices, and approvals
Deliver regulatory approvals awareness sessions to Teck Site operating departments to foster a culture of understanding and proactive behavior towards regulatory approvals
Support transition of permit approvals to the mine operations team
Coordinate consulting teams including the scheduling and coordination of environmental baseline programs and reporting
Coordinate health and safety requirements for implementing field programs, including spending time directly in the field as required
Assist with preparation of management plans and Request-for-Proposals and proposal review processes
Coordinate meetings and engagement events with government and First Nations
Coordinate and track responses to regulatory review and First Nation comments and information requests
Provide technical, administrative, and project management support for permitting projects, such as assisting with schedule, budget, scope changes, risk log, and document controls
Prepare status summaries, schedule reporting materials, and work with managers on approval of documentation
Perform other duties as required

Degree or diploma in Forestry, Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
Three to five years or more of professional experience in environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field
Skilled at using Microsoft Office Suite®, specifically Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Word
Ability to effectively coordinate with internal staff, communicate with government agencies, and work with managers to identify and resolve issues
Experience in preparing and coordinating permitting applications in the resource development industry or demonstrated similar work
Specific knowledge and experience with permitting under the following BC legislation is an asset: Mines Act, Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, and Forest Act
Experience with impact assessment work is an asset
Influential, with strong negotiation skills
Experience in a cross cultural work environment
Excellent organization skills and proactive work style
