About the Role

The Quality Engineer will ensure compliance throughout the organization on major projects/programs from product design through manufacturing and product support. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and reporting on engineering quality-related activities to assure fulfillment of contracts and purchase order requirements. This position requires a strong team player with experience creating integrated product teams and a desire for maintaining a high commitment to both new and sustaining production processes.

The Quality Engineer is responsible for monitoring the quality of assigned products produced in manufacturing operations, monitoring field reported quality issues of assigned products, coordinating corrective action on all quality issues in a timely manner, and providing regular status reporting to management.

Essential Responsibilities

Compile and analyze quality performance data

Perform process audits

Assist Quality Director as tasked to address quality assurance process issues. Drive back to front end of the process to understand why items escaped and put action plan in place to illuminate reoccurrence

Conduct developmental Quality Assurance audits

Functions as project manager as required in support of task teams created to address particular quality issues and/or concerns

Perform incoming, in-process and final inspection tests

Participate in Product Design Review Meetings (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Test)

Review requirements specifications, traceability matrices, and design documents

Review test plans, test procedures, and test summary reports

Review test results

Witness product testing

Generate Verification & Validation Summary Reports

Prepare reports, corrective action statements, metrics and other documents in support of assigned product lines

Review proposals, contracts, specifications and other technical data to determine quality requirements; implementing these requirements into processes

Investigate deficiencies that are internally generated or supplier-caused to determine causes, corrective actions and disposition the defects and support NPI MRB action items

Provide technical direction to personnel inspecting and testing product

Provides regular progress status reports to management

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, materials, engineering science) or science

3 years of product development, manufacturing quality control or test experience desired

Ability to root cause quality issues that surface in a product manufacturing operation eg. 8D, PEFEMA

Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 processes

Strong oral and written communication skills

Possesses the diplomatic skill needed to facilitate improvements in organization-wide processes

Good organization skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced product-manufacturing environment

Preferred Additional Skills

Ability to read & write technical reports

Ability to read and understand complex technical requirements

Ability to research/investigate/interview

Professional Engineering designation an asset

Six Sigma Green belt or Black Belt designation is an asset

Quality Assurance/Auditing/Investigation experience an asset

Prior experience working with military/defense programs is highly desired
