The Manager - Payroll Accounting (General Accounting) is a leadership role in the Finance Department and reports directly to the Director, General Accounting. This position is responsible and accountable for providing strong financial governance for a large and complex payroll of 100,000+ employees. The position is responsible for providing direction, leadership and organization of activities of the Finance Davison in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. This position provides support and guidance to the Payroll Accounting team for: processing financial transactions associated with all payroll entries including general ledger transactions, vendor remittances, account reconciliations, meeting all internal and external audit requirements as well as various internal and external reporting. This position is responsible for ensuring that internal controls are effective to produce accurate and complete financial data. Technical knowledge: Experience in all aspects of accounting for payroll in a large complex payroll environment preferable with experience in PeopleSoft. Experience and knowledge of IFRS and PSAS accounting principles. Experience in design, implementation and monitoring of effective internal controls to ensure stewardship of financial and physical resources. Experience in design and implementation of process and accounting system improvements to ensure the most efficient and effective delivery of services. Excellent oral, written communication and business writing skills for both internal and external communication.

University degree in business administration, finance, accounting or a related discipline is required. Professional accounting or finance designation (CA, CPA, CGA, CMA, CFA) is required. A minimum of 5-7 years management experience in a related role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity; business knowledge of the health care industry is an asset. Knowledge of payroll accounting is preferred. Experience in proactively managing and motivating human resources to ensure staff are able to fulfill their expected responsibilities. Experience in leading a team in a unionized environment. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. A combination of education and extensive experience may be considered.
