Job Title: Systems Administrator

Location: Ottawa, ON (Algoma Rd) - Ontario Medical Supply

Department: Information Technology (IT)

Reports to: Infrastructure Team Lead

Job Responsibilities

As part of the infrastructure team, the Systems Administrator will maintain, upgrade and provide support for hardware and networks. The Systems Administrator needs to be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly be available to respond to help desk requests after hours. .Team responsibilities include:

  • Manage the company infrastructure servers and networking equipment
  • Setup, configure and support Cisco & HP network appliance and WatchGuard firewalls, SonicWall VPN
  • Monitor network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency;
  • Monitor and maintain all servers (Including Windows Servers running on HP hardware in both physical and VM platforms)
  • Setup and administer server virtualization solutions (VMWare ESX 5.5 & 6.x)
  • Configuration and monitoring of VM systems and backups
  • Configure and administer Windows DFS server, File servers, and Group Policies
  • Experience supporting HP 3PAR Storage, HP Store Once
  • Configure and administer Windows Active Directory, DNS, DHCP,
  • Maintain a Windows Terminal Services Management, Remote Desktop environment
  • Monitor and maintain the Microsoft Exchange 2013 (including Blackberry UEM server managing a diverse set of mobile devices)
  • Configure remote applications to publish through the UEM to blackberry, Android and iOS devices
  • Configure and maintain Symantec Anti-Virus, Veeam Backup, Solarwinds NPM, and Proofpoint
  • Create and maintain IT documentation
  • Participate in various IT projects
  • Work on IT tickets as needed
  • Participate in rotating 24/7 on-call support
  • Travel to our various locations may be required

Skills & Qualifications

  • University degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Systems Administrator
  • Experience with firewalls, Internet VPN’s remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution is required
  • Experience working with Cisco routers/switches and/or HP network switches, and WatchGuard network firewalls is required
  • Experience with Extreme networks/Motorola wireless would be an asset
  • Microsoft certification would be an asset
  • VMWare certification would be an asset
  • Red and other Linux experience would be an asset
  • Experience working with Microsoft Remote Desktop Services in a Windows Server 2008/2012 Environment
  • Solid understanding of VMWare virtualization technology
  • Solid understanding of network monitoring tools (including SSH, telnet, Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor)
  • Experience working with a SAN (iSCSI, HP 3PAR, HP Store Once)
  • Experience with mobile device applications and mobile shipping applications would be an asset
  • Understanding of networking topology & protocols, including LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical skills, technical skills and attention to detail
  • Solid planning and organizational skills including the ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize and monitor a number of responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to positively communicate both verbally and in writing
