Job Summary

With more than $95B in assets, HOOPP is one of the largest defined benefit pension plans in Canada. HOOPP’s private capital group (“HOOPP Capital Partners” or “HCP”) has also grown significantly during the last decade with current AUM of approximately $10B.

HCP invests globally, and each member of the team is involved in making private investments in direct transactions, co-investments, and fund investments. Our direct investments represent several billion dollars of AUM and include leading companies such as Chobani, Champion Petfoods, Bauer Hockey, and Herschel Supply Co. HCP is looking to add an Associate to the team.

Role and Responsibility

Investment Process

Develop a strong understanding of the business model for potential investments
Conduct industry research for an investment decision or to identify future investment opportunities
Prepare financial analysis (including models) that is user-friendly and dynamic
Assist deal lead in deal structuring alternatives
Prepare investment committee materials and clearly communicate relevant information to the broader team and internal committees
Assist in effectively managing various third parties including consultants, lawyers, accountants, and co-investors

Portfolio Management

Monitor ongoing financial performance of fund portfolios and portfolio companies
Investigate the impact of financing alternatives on portfolio companies
Conduct analysis relevant to sell/hold decisions
Internal Initiatives
Contribute to improving HCP’s investment strategy (e.g. evaluation of various sectors and investment structures)
Prepare analysis of key industry developments
Contribute to developing a creative approach to assessing new investment opportunities and historical company performance


2-5 years of experience in investment banking or private equity
University degree in Business is an asset
MBA, CFA, CPA/CA are assets
Outstanding financial modeling skills
Expert in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
Avid interest in investing
Strong ability to use various financial resources (e.g. Capital IQ, SEC filings, analyst research)
High integrity and professionalism
Strong attention to detail
Strong written and oral communication skills

HCP is a small team of 10 investment professionals that manage approximately $10B of invested capital. There will be significant opportunity for the Associate to learn and take initiative beyond the responsibilities listed above.
