As part of a multi-disciplinary School Based Mental Health team with Child & Adolescent Addiction, Mental Health and Psychiatry Program (CAAMHPP), this is an advanced clinical position that will be responsible for providing individual and group therapy, capacity building professional development presentations, psycho social assessments and consultation to support the mental health of children and adolescents in school boards throughout the Calgary zone. It is important to note that the School Based Mental Health team works for ten months (following the school calendar), with summers off. The Family Counsellor will be responsible for working closely with parents, community professionals, school personnel, behavior support workers and family liaison workers to collaborate and coordinate care, provide leadership, increase capacity in teachers and other professionals around mental health issues, and to act as a spokesperson and advocate for the children in their school settings. Reporting to the manager of School Based Mental Health the Family Counsellor position is responsible for triaging referrals received from schools, carrying a caseload of individual students, providing supports to build mental health capacity in school, building collaborative partnerships with educational personnel and effectively liaising with other CAAMHPP programs and service providers. Clinicians will be expected to assess children and adolescents using the DSM-V, to write clinical formulations and to support referrals to psychiatry as appropriate.
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with applicable professional association or college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
3 to 5 years of direct clinical experience in child and adolescent mental health with proven experience as a clinical therapist able to offer individual interventions. Knowledge, skills and experience in assessment and DSM-V diagnoses. Experience providing group therapy. Proficient in using Windows, E-mail, Microsoft Office (including Excel) and typing. Completion of Brain Story.
Master’s Degree in Social Work with psychosocial intervention status preferred. Experience working with or in a school setting and an understanding of Alberta Learning’s requirements for student education and familiarity of the education system. Knowledge of the inter-relationships between school milieus, community and family systems. Experience with providing capacity-building support to other professionals and families in the form of both consultation and professional presentations.
