Your Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Pre-Admission Clinics Unit Manager and Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of Pre-operative patients, for education, and optimization for surgery using the Nursing Process and within the LPN Scope of Practice. Patient assessments are performed within the clinic and by telephone interview. The LPN assists physician consultants, participates in and supports medical, and nursing research activities and demonstrates professional accountability in all aspects of dealing with the public.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years’ experience within the last 5 years in an inpatient surgical nursing experience in an acute care setting required. Minimum 1 year experience within the last 3 years in a Preadmission Clinic environment in an acute care setting is required. Patient teaching experience, well-developed organizational skills and strong critical thinking skills required. Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills through computer, verbal and written means, in a professional and mature manner. Demonstrated initiative and independence in a team environment. Expertise in Clinibase/SCM for all levels of staff required.
