Van Beek's Landscape Supply, an established garden center that has been successfully serving the GTA for almost 60 years, is looking for an experienced operations manager who is interested in leading a team of diverse individuals in a faced-paced work environment. The ideal candidate will be experienced in recruitment and training practices, have a customer service background and knowledge of the landscape/construction industry.

Position Overview: The Operations Manager leads the team at Van Beek's and assumes responsibility for operational activities and results. They will be involved in a variety of areas, including: human resources, training, customer service, and management of staff members in the office as well as outside in the yard. This role requires the Operations Manager to work actively on the sales floor to oversee all activities carried out by staff, and also to plan accordingly for daily operations and goal completion.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Organizing office operations and procedures
  • Interacting with customers, supervisors, and employees
  • Scheduling and supervising office and yard staff
  • Typing, filing, and other general office duties
  • Answering phones
  • Scheduling deliveries and managing drivers
  • Taking orders, creating and editing invoices
  • Managing accounts receivable and processing payments
  • Building client relationships

We are seeking candidates with the following attributes:

  • Proven experience managing employees and daily operations of a retail store
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Customer service experience
  • Good conflict resolution skills, ability to effectively deal with customer and employee complaints or concerns
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with Point of Sale systems
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in highly demanding and time sensitive situations
  • Working knowledge of office equipment (computer, scanner, printer, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience with filing systems
  • Detail oriented
  • Professional demeanor
  • An eagerness to learn and adapt in a constantly changing business
  • Knowledge of the Landscaping/Garden Supply industry
  • Experience operating equipment (front end loader, forklift)
  • Must be able to work Saturdays

Compensation:

  • $58,000 - $70,000 starting salary

Experience:

  • Retail Management: 5 years (Required)
  • Front End Loader Operator: 2 years (Preferred)
