The System Administrator’s role is to manage and tune in-house computer software systems and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers
  • Participate in evaluating emerging technologies

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Coordinate with network, business application, and database administration functions to implement server systems that utilize industry best practices to meet corporate objectives
  • Deploy servers, applications, firewalls, encryption systems, and all host security systems

Operational Management

  • Manage VMware virtual server environment
  • Maintain MS Exchange, O365, SQL servers
  • Maintain end user application access via Idaptive (SSO)
  • Manage RAID, SAN and NAS architecture
  • Manage Active Directory, RDS, VPN, DFS, Print server, DMZ
  • Hardware and software support for servers, networks, printers and peripherals
  • Administration of networking, firewalls and network security
  • Administration of phone system, surveillance system, security system
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers. Escalate incidents as necessary.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
  • Support application development teams throughout project lifecycles
  • Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts
  • Provide guidance to junior members of the team
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use

What You’ll Need

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Hands on experience with VMware v6.5+
  • Hands on experience MS Server 2016+ & Windows 10
  • Hands on experience with PowerShell scripting
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Remote Desktop Services
  • Strong working knowledge of administration of MS Office 365, including Teams
  • Experience with networking, switches, LAN, WAN, and Wi-Fi
  • Experience with system backup solutions, Veeam considered an asset
  • Experience with Hyperconverged Infrastructure
  • Experience with a Help Desk ticketing system is considered an asset
  • Experience with Change Management workflow is considered an asset
  • Experience with a VoIP system is considered an asset
  • Experience of Mac OS X is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of rental inventory software is considered an asset


  • Information Technology/Computer Science program or equivalent

Our Work Environment

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, generally earlier hours to collaborate with Toronto team (7:00aM-3:30pM or 8:00aM-4:30pm)
  • Some physical effort required (i.e. some lifting of supplies and material)
  • Long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers
  • Some exposure to warehouse environment
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components
  • 40-hour onsite work week with on-call availability for 4 days per month
