The Inventory Control Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day shift operations for all inventory and cycle counting activities. The primary functions of this position include, but are not limited to, inventory integrity and accuracy, ensuring proper inventory transactions and turns, and the over all health, safety and supervision of inventory staff.
This position is based out of Stayner, ON.
Maintain inventory database (lead times, min order quantity, pricing)
Optimize and maintain lean inventories, minimize physical and financial loss
Direct inventory activities; including organizing & management of yearly inventory counts and weekly cycle counts
Develop inventory control procedures and best practices, including establishing and achieving KPIs
Conduct regular documented inspections of the workplace (re: operational efficiency, health and safety) ensuring that deficiencies are corrected with immediacy and urgency as required
Improve the overall output of the inventory team by performance managing staff and initiating continuous improvement activities as appropriate to reduce costs and lead times while increasing inventory/product turns and order turnaround
Control non-available inventory, including scheduling for rework and process and resolve product quality issues as necessary
Investigate customer claims regarding short or over shipments, provide recommendations for minimizing supplier invoice discrepancies, verify employee logs for accuracy and support other departments in conversion and troubleshooting activities
Understand and execute advanced replenishment with specific responsibility for improvements to the warehouse for reduced congestion
Identify, resolve and mitigate future inventory discrepancies, problem orders and intercompany transfer issues
Design order plan to maximum distribution efficiency
Investigate inventory variances/problems, find root causes and develop solutions
Establish strategies and goals for improved inventory forecast performance for the organization and inventory flow
Maintain close coordination with Production Team to ensure materials arrive for the timely production of finished products
Manage a team to meet inventory quantity and turn goals and objectives by delegating tasks and allocating workload
Work under pressure to carry out cycle counts and full inventory counts, along with ad hoc requests and demands, coordinating and facilitating different inventory needs as necessary
Assist with distribution activities – shipping/receiving activity
Additional projects and responsibilities as assigned
Warehouse environment with exposure to: (a) fluctuating heat and cold due to open dock doors; (b) some noise associated with forklift traffic;
Office environment with regular desk duties with exposure to: (a) sitting at length; (b) computer usage requiring manual dexterity for typing and visual concentration on screens
Bachelor’s Degree from a competitive college or university in Purchasing, Materials Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field
Experience managing people (coaching, training, mentoring, developing)
5-10 years of relevant experience leading inventory control teams with at least 3-5 years of direct people leadership experience preferred
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
Computer proficiency and literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite
Experienced with ERP software and warehouse management systems (SAP preferred) as well as experienced with bar coding and RF guns
Excellent English communication skills required, both verbal and written, with demonstrated ability to interact, direct, clarify and train various levels of staff
Demonstrated proficiency in influencing others to obtain results, team work and problem solving
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines
