JOB TITLE: Corporate Regulatory Compliance Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Senior Corporate Technical Quality Assurance Manager

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: Ensures that the design and development ofproduct packaging / labels follow all regulatory requirements and meets customers’ requirements. Ensure that the nutritional requirements and ingredient statement for the country of destination have been met. Maintains and provides accurate batch sheets for production. Assists with training for the Company sensory training program. This position is responsible for both the Edmonton and Tillsonburg facility.
Provides Technical Documents to the Product Development team when requested. Once a new product has been approved, creates the batch sheet and provides information to the customer or graphics house to initiate the label design for the product in question. Information required includes, but not limited to: ingredient declaration, nutritional information, allergen concerns, net weight statement, handling instructions, country of origin designation, Canada legend size and placement and cooking instructions.
Ensures that all communication to the customer or graphics house is clear to ensure full understanding of what is required. Ensures that all returned copy is carefully reviewed to ensure the accuracy of the labels.
Keeps current with all regulatory bodies (CFIA, USDA, FDA) to ensure that any new requirements can be met by Inovata Foods Corp. in a timely manner.
Maintains customer specifications and ensures customer portals are maintained.
Ensures that ingredients used in finished goods to be exported to foreign countries, meet that country’s regulatory requirements. Submits label approvals to the appropriate governing body with accuracy to ensure that labels can be approved in a timely fashion.
Coordinates any required changes with the customer or graphics house to ensure that the label has been corrected as required.
Ensures that any changes to a formulation are completed according to internal processes, and the applicable departments are notified. Ensures that all label changes are recorded on the ‘Approved Label Version List’ and that QA Technicians have been advised of any and all changes.
Maintains an accurate and up to date registry of all current ingredients used in the production area. Ensures that allergens are identified and advises the QA team that there is the presence of an allergen in the raw material and that this is identified in the Ingredients Allergen Matrix and on the batch sheet. Monitors the Raw Material Non-conformances and trends the concerns with ingredients in both facilities advising Purchasing if there are any concerns.
Ensures that all required quality documents from suppliers are current and up to date and meet the Company’s requirements as an approved supplier.
Maintains an accurate and up to date registry of all current finished products produced. Ensures that allergens are identified and advises the QA team that there is the presence of an allergen in the finished product.
Utilizes the packaging registry and advises Purchasing if any changes are noted during label review.
Assists with the administration of the Company Sensory Program, including training of sensory panelists.
Understands the Company’s HACCP System and SQF Code 8.1 Level 3 Quality System in general and as it pertains to the job requirements.
In unison with the department staff, this position ensures their respective department is in compliance with the Company safety policies and applicable health and safety legislation.
In the absence of the Corporate Regulatory Compliance Coordinator, this position will be covered by the Senior Corporate Technical Quality Assurance Manager.
Performs other related duties as required.
Must possess a post-secondary education in a related field and preferably two (2) years related experience. A post secondary degree in food science or related field is a must.
Must possess a thorough understanding and working knowledge of regulatory Compliance and nutritional labelling. Must possess good interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and leadership skills. Must possess above-average computer skills.
General use of computer, calculator, photocopier, telephone and facsimile machine. Manual dexterity also required when operating food testing equipment.
Must possess excellent communication skills when dealing with government agencies and other internal and external customers. Must possess good interpersonal skills when working with other departments.
Performs multiple tasks requiring concentration. Must ensure accuracy of quality data that requires extended periods of mental and visual concentration.
Requires extended periods of sitting. Some walking is required.
Responsibility for Others
Makes decisions regarding the labelling of finished products. Makes decisions on the sensory release of finished goods. Impact of errors may result in a product recall which has a financial cost to the Company and poor customer relations.
Job has access to confidential information such as product development and formulations.
Responsibility for Resources
Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment and ensuring departmental personnel are properly using equipment and measuring techniques, etc.
Job has daily exposure to a computer. Job requires very little travel and extended working hours.
