1.0 FTE Continuing – 2 Year Term

Applications are invited for the position of District Coordinator – Science. This is a 1.0 FTE Continuing position effective September 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021.

The District Coordinator – Science will work as part of a team of District Coordinators and Resource Teachers to design professional learning experiences to support teachers as they use the re-designed curriculum to transform their pedagogical practices to create deeper learning for students.

This is a position of Special Responsibility and will be filled by competition.

Responsibilities & Duties of District Coordinators:
Working with the Director of Instruction, District Principal of Curriculum and Career Education, and District Coordinators as part of a team in a process that places learners at the center;
Collaborating with other District Coordinators and District staff on key district initiatives, particularly the implementation of the re-designed curriculum;
Liaising with personnel from other school districts.

Responsibilities & Duties of the District Coordinator – Science:

Designing, organizing and implementing district-based, in-service opportunities with particular attention in the area of redesigned curriculum;
Collaborating with other District Coordinators and District staff on key district initiatives, particularly the implementation of the re-designed curriculum;
Developing curricular learning continua as well as scope and sequence at each grade level;
Developing assessment tools for classroom, school and district use;
Leading effective job-embedded professional learning with groups of educators through cycles of co-planning, co-teaching, and co-learning;
Engaging in professional learning to develop adaptive expertise in the areas of effective pedagogy and job-embedded professional learning cultures;
Providing onsite support and assistance to classroom teachers;
Supporting science safety in senior science labs;
Working with the Director of Instruction and District Principal of Curriculum and Career Education to develop an effective teacher mentorship program;
Other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent’s office.

Preference will be given to candidates having:
A Master’s Degree in Science, Curriculum or related discipline;
Valid BC Teaching Certificate;
An exemplary teaching record;
Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities;
Experience designing and delivering professional learning programs for educators;
Training and/or experience designing teacher mentorship programs;
Experience leading professional development to promote quality assessment practices in alignment with the re-designed curriculum;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Exemplary technology integration skills;
Exemplary leadership, interpersonal, organizational and consultation skills;
A commitment to teamwork.
