Unit Summary

Genetic services are provided jointly by the Department of Pediatrics at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and the Department of Laboratory Medicine at McMaster University Medical Centre, at Hamilton Health Sciences. The Regional Genetics Service is a dynamic program providing specialized care for children and adults in a family-centred environment

Position Summary

The Genetic Assist will monitor, track and triaging genetic and other referrals. Supports and assists the medical oncologists and genetic counselors with aspects of case preparation and follow up by communicating normal genetic results to referring physician offices/patients directly. The Genetic Assistant will maintain department databases and runs reports on referral activity, family history questionnaire, progreny and laboratory results

This position is temporary until January 2021.


1. Bachelor Degree in related field (i.e. Science, Biology, Genetics) preferred
2. Knowledge of basic genetics essential
3. Strong communication skills
4. Strong organizational skills
5. Ability to work in multidisciplinary setting
6. MS Office, Word, Excel and Access
7. Demonstrated multi-tasking and prioritization skills
8. Strong organizational skills
