PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Production Manager, Freight Car Business Unit will develop facility plans and schedules and is directly responsible for the day-today operation of the Weston Production Facility – Freight Car Business Unit, including general car repair, heavy car repair and capital car programs. The selected candidate will ensure activities are performed safely and in strict compliance with regulatory and maintenance standards consistent with expectations of the business.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Account for and ensure CP Weston Production Facility – Freight Car Business Unit complies with Quality manuals and procedures in accordance with the 24 key items identified in Chapter 2 of the AAR M1003 Manual of Standards and Recommended Practices to ensure maximum compliance as applicable;
Support development of the Quality Management System and quality process audits to meet requirements as it relates to the freight car business unit; In addition, take appropriate corrective measures as required;
Ensure AAR rule compliance, Quality Management System (QMS) compliance;
Safeguard the application of CP safety practices, policies, procedures and output/results by all direct reports;
Participate and support the implementation of Lean Continuous Improvement methodologies and recommendations to improve productivity and effectiveness in the Weston Production Facility;
Ensure all training is maintained; completed with appropriate records and maintained to meet AAR M-1003 quality requirements for the Weston freight car business unit with the use of the Learning Management System (LMS); provide advice and guidance as it relates to mechanical car training needs;
Supports the maintenance of any computer systems required for production and quality systems and ensures they are operating properly;
Develop, monitor and maintain key performance indicators for the fright car business unit, including all indirect reports and direct reports;
Provide feedback and coach direct reports to improve their overall performance and effectiveness;
Set / Support performance objective setting for direct reports to improve their overall effectiveness; invoke performance improvement/development (i.e. training, courses, etc.) as required;
Responsible for prompt escalation of and ensuring accurate submission of IM reports for personal injuries, train accidents, motor vehicle accidents for the freight car business unit;
Advises and provides feedback on standards, procedures, and process improvements;
Ensure Weston Freight Car Business Unit operates in alignment with Canadian Pacific Quality Standards and systems;
Recommend any changes required to CP corporate quality program to ensure it meets AAR requirements;
Ensure all employee training records are up to date for the business unit and required training needs are scheduled and met;
Ensure AAR rule compliance, Quality Management System (QMS) compliance.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma (minimum formal education level); college/university education preferred;
8 – 10 year’s railway operations experience, specifically within Mechanical environments;
Experience in leading within a union environment, knowledge of collective agreements;
Experience in budget analysis techniques;
Strong planning and problem-solving/resolution skills;
Capable of evaluating risks;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Situational leadership – Ability to engage and direct others and manage in a unionized environment;
Ability to implement change and best practices successfully.
