MacEwan University is seeking an experienced Web Developer for our Web Architecture and Development department.

The Web Developer contributes to the development and maintenance of web applications and integrations between applications to support the university’s business processes. Development activities include both front-end and back-end web application development.

This position will also carry out development and maintenance tasks in the DevOps role of the team, creating, testing, and running configuration and deployment automation tasks using continuous integration and configuration automation tools. Familiarity with Ansible and Python for task automation would be an asset.

The Web Developer takes direction from the manager and senior developers on the Web Architecture and Development team. Where required, the Web Developer informs members of project teams about the progress of work related to the project.

The incumbent is expected to explore and learn new technologies and solutions as directed by the team manager or a senior developer.

The Web Developer should be proficient in relevant web application development technologies, platforms, libraries and frameworks currently in use at the university. Technologies used include, but are not limited to, Java, PHP, REST and SOAP services, JSON, XML, and JavaScript. Libraries and frameworks used include, but are not limited to, Spring, Thymeleaf, Bootstrap, Angular, React, and Node.

This position should also be familiar with developer tools in use at the university, including IDEs, such as Eclipse or Visual Studio Code, build tools and dependency management tools, such as Maven or npm, and Git for source control.
