Provide ongoing facilitation and coaching to local management teams to ensure quality incident investigation and root cause analysis.
Plan, schedule, resource and conduct assigned HSEQ audits and produce high quality management audit reports in a timely manner.
Facilitate the development of site HSEQ plans that align with regional and corporate goals for all plants that reduce risk and control exposure within the local businesses.
Provide support for the completion of Messer's Major Hazard Review Program (MHRP) licenses and site inspections.
Provide expert advice to the business on occupational health and hygiene hazards and performs risk assessments and recommends improvements to potential chemical exposure and manual handling activities.
Participate in industry association committees and the Compressed Gas Association, (CGA) as required.
Ensures environmental compliance, assists with environmental permitting and supports the business with environmental and product stewardship activities.
Monitor and assist sites, functions and the business with HSEQ Qualitative Risk Assessments (QRA) and leads full commitment to the Golden Rules of Safety (GROS).
Ensure that injury management procedures are implemented and effectively manage workers compensation claims to reduce lost time incidents wherever possible.
Conduct and assist with the development of HSEQ training including the HSEQ Management System, Hazard ID and Risk Assessment, Permit to Work, Lockout/Tagout, Incident Investigation and Analysis, BBS, Auditor Training, New Manager, Ergonomics, Environmental Compliance, etc.
Participate in the HSEQ planning of Turnarounds & Extended Outages and provides on-site HSEQ support during outages if necessary.
Conducts root cause analysis and incident investigations and leads the investigation of SIFs and MIRs. Ensure timely review and closure of preventative and corrective actions.
Facilitate compliance with local hearing conservation programs and audiometric testing.
Provide training and support to local management teams in the implementation of the ACC Responsible Care Management System (RCMS), CAOSHA, Process Safety, and Risk Management compliance.
Plans and conduct HSEQ audits, inspections, and assessments at all sites within the region.
Assist sites with the management and handing of all regulatory inspections including Health Canada, CAEPA, CAOSHA, CADOT, etc.
Provides program support and leadership for significant HSEQ emergency response incidents.
Maintain a working knowledge of HSEQ legislation and industry guidelines and assist the business in identifying impacts and solutions for compliance.
Work in partnership with HSEQ Staff and all business functions in North America to develop and implement HSEQ management standards, guidelines, processes and best practices.
Manage the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Program for all hazardous Messer products in compliance with Messer programs and legislative requirements in the US and Canada.
Develop product related health and safety documentation and customer communication tools to ensure legislative compliance and to support of the Product Stewardship Program.
Ensure other HSEQ programs such as Respiratory Protection and Hearing Conservation are in place and are effectively managed for compliance.
Make recommendations and work in partnership with sites when industrial hygiene monitoring sampling or surveys are conducted to support Messer programs and compliance with legislative requirements
Participate on Regional and Global Teams of Experts relating to HSEQ management.
Supports and trains HSEQ staff on specific processes and audit program requirements.
Conducts and leads audits in support of the annual Messer Americas audit plan.
Provides Training on HSEQ management processes as necessary.
Keep abreast of safety and risk management legislation and industry guidelines (current and pending) and assist the business in identifying impacts and solutions for compliance.

Required education

Bachelors of Science in Health, Safety, Environment, Engineering, Chemistry or

Required qualifications

Minimum 10 years of Leadership experience in an operating environment, Health, Safety, Environment or Risk Management field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in working in an HSEQ role for a multi-national company.
Minimum 3 years of experience in Auditing and Training experience.

Other qualifications

Safety or Health certification preferred CSP, etc.
Working knowledge of HSEQ regulations
