Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a strategic and results driven project leader to join our team in the role of Manager, Projects as part of our Nuclear Waste Management project team. This role is based out of our Tiverton facility adjacent to the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, in the Kincardine, Bruce County area.

Reporting to the Project Director, the Manager, Projects, is responsible for developing and leading Project Management and Field Execution for the effective delivery of a portfolio of ongoing projects at the Tiverton site. The Manager, Projects is accountable for projects ranging from $5-100 million, including project implementation and budgetary oversight.

In this role, the successful candidate will provide support and help to advance the organization towards becoming more efficient, reliable, and cost effective.

Accountable to ensure the successful execution of projects by applying methodologies in areas such as, but not limited to:

Safety & Quality Programs;
Human Performance Program;
Radiation Protection;
Application of OPEX;
OPG/External partners Integration;
Contract Management to meet OPG procedural and legal obligations; and
Human Resources & Labour Relations policies integration.

Manage the initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing project management processes for assigned projects.
Ensure safety, integration, scope management, schedule management, cost management, quality management, resource management, communications management, risk management, procurement/contract management and oversight are executed in accordance to the programs and standards established by the organization for projects.
Set and manage team priorities and ensure projects are supported and executed per the approved Business Case Summaries and Project Management Plans.
Coordinate work activities, and review and eliminate barriers to achieve results.


Provide a safe and healthy work environment.
Develop, approve, and implement project governance, including documents in estimating, scheduling, scope management, cost control; provide oversight for the development of project logic, schedules, and budgets.
Prepare the Project Execution Plan, and support the Project Sponsors in the preparation of Business Case Summaries, Project Charters and board memos for project and portfolio releases.
Define project management standards and requirements; develop project execution and contracting strategies; identify risks and actions to eliminate or mitigate risks; define and implement processes for effective change control through the project life cycle.
Ensure that project costs are correctly allocated, controlled, and reported with timely project status reporting; close out projects with appropriate turnover documentation.
Perform analysis on performance results and identify impacts on projects; implement appropriate earned value and forecasting methods with project reports.
Plan and coordinate execution of design package activities in accordance with approved Ontario Power Generation Nuclear (OPGN) standards, including required testing and verification activities to ensure modification meets the design and operability requirements (i.e. commissioning); promote the use of industry proven project management best practices.
Ensure commissioning specifications for modifications that use internal or external resources are aligned per the design requirements.
Ensure appropriate actions are taken to minimize variances from the approved Project Management Plan/Project Execution Plan.
Lead and coach a team capable of producing the required outputs and results; manage the staff and Unit and achieve the approved programs and targeted results, motivating and driving the outputs of teams.
Encourage, monitor, and take corrective action as needed to promote effective interfaces with Supply Chain, Finance, sponsors and other stakeholder organizations.
Align processes with other planning and control processes, including project scheduling and contingency management.
Demonstrate stewardship of OPG's assets and resources; explore alternatives and recommend options to achieve project objectives.
Prepare Purchased Services Agreement (PSA) and trade union submissions for work assignment; manage the contracts required to execute the projects and the interfaces between contractors and OPG; execute contract management activities consistent with OPG Requirements.
Prepare detailed scope of work documents for retention of contacted services.
Complete bid evaluation criteria, bid review, and recommendations for award.
Review and accept contractors' work plans for fabrication, installation, commissioning, and testing of new and modified equipment and facilities.
Execute contract administration, contract monitoring and contract management activities.
Coordinate the preparation of licensing submissions required for projects.
Own project schedules, and establish and maintain schedules for all deliverables in the applicable scope.


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or Business is required; and
Master of Business Administration (MBA), or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, is considered an asset.


We are seeking an innovative, strategic, visionary and experienced Project leader who has the following:

Minimum 6 years of progressive project management experience, with demonstrated experience in effectively delivering and managing high profile / large scale projects.
Previous experience working in or for a complex organization similar to size and scope of OPG, where experience executing project leadership and delivery strategies while providing advice directly with all levels of an organization including vendor and senior leadership and business unit management teams at large.
Must have experience as a project or program manager on major infrastructure projects, managing project and portfolio budgets ranging up to $100 million.
Strong leadership skills with a minimum of 4 years of management experience required, where effectively lead, influenced and motivated a large team of resources (direct staff, vendor resources, sub-contractors, etc.).
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with excellent oral and writing skills; must be confident and approachable; requires strong facilitative, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills.
Must possess a high level of integrity and personal accountability with a focus on engaging employees to perform at their best, while promoting the development of the team.
People orientated with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and maintaining positive, productive and collaborative working relationships and partnerships externally and internally with a wide variety of stakeholders. Experience in establishing credibility, confidence and earning trust.
Possesses exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated solid judgement with a strong business acumen with proven track records of achieving success while providing valued input to a management team; ability to quickly understand business processes, their risk implications and analyze complex situations to reach appropriate conclusions; demonstrates strong critical thinking, "hands-on" analytical skills and a process-driven mentality;
Strong problem solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges. A strong drive and a high level of energy, commitment and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations in a dynamic organization.
Ability to reach well grounded, independent conclusions and influence outcomes directly and through a team of resources;
Experience identifying new processes and/or systems to improve productivity and/or make the business more efficient.
Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment while effectively managing and adapting to ever-changing priorities.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook).
